Harry was woken up by the sound of an engine in the middle of the night. Rubbing his eyes, he sat up and saw a green car floating outside the window. Fred was winking at him on the steering wheel, George was sitting next to him, and Ron's head was peeking out of the back window, calling softly,"Harry-"
"Hey, what are you guys doing?”
He jumped off the bed and opened the window.
George said,"We've written you several letters, but you didn't answer. Everyone was worried sick, wondering what happened to you, so-"
"That's why we came to pick you up. Two weeks have passed. You should be able to leave now, right?”said Fred.
Harry pointed at the car and said hesitantly,"This is-"
"Oh, this is my father's car." said Ron triumphantly."It's enchanted, isn't it? Stop talking. Pack your things and come with us.”
"Oh," said Harry, and he turned to pack his things.
He stuffed a few books and clothes into the trunk, looked around, saw that he had left nothing behind, then carried it to the window and handed it to Ron. He put on a rucksack and nudged Hedwig, who was fast asleep.
Hedwig gave his hand a dissatisfied peck and closed her eyes again. Harry simply hugged it, and Ron pulled him into the car with difficulty.
Setting Hedwig aside, Harry took a pen and a note from his bag, wrote a few lines, threw them through the window, and said to Fred,"Alright, let's go."
Fred whistled and the car shot forward. Harry looked at the shrinking roof and shouted happily,"See you next summer!"
said Ron, pointing at the fountain pen in Harry's hand."Is this a Muggle pen?"
Harry handed him the fountain pen."Yeah, I've been feeling a little uncomfortable with quill-pens for a long time, actually, Muggle stuff's not so bad.”
"You and my father have quite a lot in common.”"He's obsessed with Muggle things," said Fred with a grin."He'd often take Muggle things apart, enchant them, and put them back together again. Our house was full of them.”
Harry looked curious."What did your father do?”
Ron turned the pen over and over and said casually,"My father works in the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Department at the Ministry of Magic.”
"But, this car…"
"Yes, Harry," said George, smiling,"my mother always said that if he ever searched our house, he'd have to arrest himself, and it annoyed her..."
Ron handed the pen back to Harry and said,"Why didn't you write back to us? Hmm? Don't the Muggles let you write?”
Harry shrugged innocently." Of course not. They were all worried that I might accidentally burn the house down or something, so they ignored me at all. As for your letters, they have all been detained. I only received them a few days ago.”
Fred looked around.”
" Don't mention it," said Harry helplessly." A house-elf came to my room a few days ago and intercepted all your letters. He thought that if I thought my friends had forgotten me, I wouldn't want to go back to Hogwarts. He said a lot of strange things.”
George said,"What did it say to you? - Fred, you're going too far west.”
Fred turned the steering wheel.
Harry went on,"Well, it said something terrible was going to happen at Hogwarts this year and told me not to go. After he finished speaking, he kept banging his head against the wall as a punishment for revealing this information to me.”
George, Fred, and Ron all laughed.
George laughed the most. He wiped his tears and said intermittently,"Truly…truly creative…truly creative prank.”
Do you think it's lying?"
"Other than schools, of course, house-elves are only found in some old Wizarding families. Besides, house-elves were not allowed to leave the house they served without their master's permission. I mean, someone must have had a problem with you and sent house-elves to scare you.”
"It must be Malfoy," said Ron."He's got to have house-elves.”
"Maybe."
Fred said,"Here-"
The car flew lower and lower, passing through a forest and stopping in front of an old garage on an empty land.
Harry opened the door and jumped out, and Ron told him happily,"Welcome to the Burrow-"
――――――――――――――――――
The wizard's house was very interesting to Harry.
The room was full of pictures, posing in all sorts of ways, waving happily at Harry when they saw him. When he woke up in the morning to comb his hair, the mirror kept asking him where he cut his hair. Although everything was neatly arranged, Harry had the feeling that they would move at any moment. The dishes that washed themselves, the brooms and rags that danced around the room when they were cleaned, and the alarm clock that pulled people's hair to wake them up, all made him feel very fresh. Although it was clear that this was the effect of magic, Harry still had the illusion that he was living in a fairytale world.
Mrs. Weasley had been very affable the day he had arrived, after she had given the three brothers a good beating. Harry had never imagined that a mother would appear in his life, and it warmed his heart and made him feel a little embarrassed. Once, he woke up early and made breakfast. Mrs. Weasley went downstairs to look at the eggs and milk on the table, then stared at Harry for a long time. Just when Harry wondered if she had been too abrupt, she threw her arms around him and said sadly,"Poor Harry, how did you train yourself to be such a good cook, those damn Muggles-" Harry was too embarrassed to tell her that his cooking was so good purely because he was delicious.
Mr. Weasley was a humorous man who often discussed Muggle matters with Harry, who liked him because he was not as dismissive of Muggles as other wizards. Wizards and wizards had been out of touch with the Muggle world for so long that they were still using quills and parchment in class! This really made people speechless. If other wizards were as willing to be exposed to new things as Mr. Weasley was, the power of magic and technology might lead the future of mankind in a different direction. Of course, he was just thinking about it for no reason. He didn't jump out to change the world.
Harry rarely saw Percy, who was always holed up in his room.
George and Fred's room was his favorite in the Burrow. It was a mess inside, and there were strange experimental products and semi-finished products everywhere. Harry very enthusiastically whispered to them the idea of the twins 'future prank product, saying that he had seen it in a Muggle novel. Their eyes went green, and they whooshed into their room and never came out again except to eat. The Weasleys were so used to this that they did not even hear the occasional explosions.
Ginny, too, was flustered and flushed every time she saw Harry, and though he looked calm, he was definitely more embarrassed than she was.
Merlin, if not for his accident, he would be the future Mrs. Potter.
So, Harry kept a certain distance from her with great difficulty.
Life at the Burrow was happy. They often went into the forest to ride broomsticks, make balls out of apples, practice tossing each other, and then have picnics. Harry also helped to clean up the gnomes occasionally-it was a very interesting thing. Lan Ying might have been agitated by what happened last semester. He insisted on not leaving his side and was still hiding in the Jade Water Bracelet to cultivate. Harry had wanted to call him out a few times, but he was in seclusion.
A week later, they received a letter from Hogwarts. They were going to Diagon Alley to buy textbooks for the new term and other items on the list.
