When Bunce got up the next day, he found Harry flipping through the diary.

"How is that possible?" Bangs muttered to himself.

"What are you talking about?" said Ron, pulling on his coat.

"Harry, please follow me later," Bance said.

"What are you doing? Is there something you need?" said Harry, puzzled, putting down the diary.

"Do what you should be doing." Bangs said as he got dressed and jumped off the bed.

"I, I should do it?" said Harry doubtfully.

"You'll know when the time comes. This is a great thing.”Bangs said with a smile.

"Hey, don't ignore my existence.”said Ron.

He led Harry again through the familiar corridors to Dumbledore's office and knocked.

The door opened, and Dumbledore, standing in his purple dressing gown, asked,"It's so early. What's the matter?"

"This one again." Bangs said as he took out his diary.

"This is incredible. Please come in first.”said Dumbledore as he returned to his seat.

"I forgot that only snake venom can stop this thing from repairing itself.”Bance said.

"So-" Dumbledore looked meaningfully at Harry.

"Sorry, what are you talking about?" asked Harry.

"Ah, Harry, forgive me. We're discussing how to stop the monsters in the secret chamber from killing people. Only you can stop this from happening. Are you willing to go?”said Dumbledore quietly.

"I'm willing." said Harry firmly.

"Professor, to be honest, I think your clothes are really nice.”said Bunce, standing in front of the stagnant faucet in Myrtle's bathroom.

"Thanks, but what's Harry supposed to do now?”said Dumbledore.

"Harry, see that snake's head?”Bangs pointed at the dragon head and said.

"I saw it. Is there a problem?”said Harry.

"Say 'open' in snake language." Bance said.

"Open it." said Harry.

He looked up at Bunce, who shook his head.

"No, you're speaking human language."

"Open it." said Harry again.

But this time Bunce heard something else, a strange hissing sound coming out of Harry's mouth. Immediately, the dragon head emitted a dazzling white light and began to spin rapidly. Then, the pool started to move. They watched as the pool slowly disappeared from view, revealing a pipe so thick that a person could crawl into it.

"So this is the passageway.”said Dumbledore, looking closely at the pipe.

"Indeed." Bance said.

"But-" said Harry, and Dumbledore stepped in to stop him.

Dumbledore jumped into the pipe first, and Bunce followed, then let go and let himself slide down.

It felt like hurtling down a dark, slimy, endless slide. He could see that there were many more tubes that branched off in all directions, but none were as thick as this one. Their pipe twisted and turned, and the slope was very steep all the way down. Bunce knew that he had slipped far, far beneath the school grounds, even deeper than the dungeons.

Bang Si suddenly fell to the ground and was caught by a pair of strong hands. It was a dark stone tunnel, big enough for a person to stand inside. Very close to him, Dumbledore was surveying everything.

" Flashing light!" Dumbledore spoke to the creak of his wand, and it glowed. "Let's go." he said to Bunce and Harry. The three of them stomped on the wet ground, making a loud sound.

The tunnel was so dark that they could only see a small area in front of them. The wandlight cast their shadows on the wet walls, making them look like monsters.

"Bunce, there's something there," said Harry, grabbing Bunce by the shoulder.

Don't worry, it's just snakeskin." Bance said.

Dumbledore stepped forward and raised his wand.

The light shone on a huge snakeskin. It was green and very bright. One look and one could tell that it was the skin of a poisonous snake. It was coiled on the ground of the tunnel, and the inside was empty. Clearly, the creature that had just shed this layer of skin was at least twenty feet long.

"Time to go." said Dumbledore.

The tunnel turned one bend after another. When he turned another corner, he found a solid wall in front of him. There were two snakes entwined on it, and their eyes were set with large, shiny emeralds.

Harry stepped forward and hissed,"Open it."

The two snakes parted, and the stone wall split in the middle, slowly sliding to the sides and disappearing.

"Do you know what you're going to face later?”asked Dumbledore.

"Basilisk, you can't be seen.”Bance said.

"That's right, but its lethality is also very shocking. I don't want any accidents to happen to you.”said Dumbledore kindly. "Remember, no one is to open their eyes without my permission.”said Dumbledore.

Bunce followed Dumbledore inside. He was standing at the side of a long, dimly lit room. Many stone pillars carved with coiling serpents towered up to support the ceiling that melted into the darkness, casting long and strange shadows on the entire room that was filled with a mysterious green atmosphere.

When they were level with the last pair of pillars, a statue as tall as the room itself suddenly appeared, pressed against the dark wall behind it.

Bunce had to look up to see the enormous stone face above him: It was an old, monkey-like face, with a long, sparse beard that reached almost to the bottom of the stone wizard's robes, and a pair of large, gray feet standing on the smooth floor of the room.

"It's unbelievable. I have to say that what Salazar did was amazing.”Dumbledore sighed.

She heard music coming from somewhere. This voice was ethereal, ethereal, and mysterious, making one excited. It made the hair on Bones 'scalp stand on end and his heart double its original size. The music grew louder and louder, and at that moment, flames burst from the top of the nearest stone pillar.

A dark red bird the size of a crane had suddenly descended from the sky and was playing its strange music on the arched ceiling. It had a golden tail that was as long as a peacock's tail. It also had a pair of golden claws that were holding a tattered package.

A second later, the bird was flying straight toward Dumbledore. It dropped the ragged thing on its paw at Dumbledore's feet and perched heavily on his shoulder. As it folded its enormous wings, Bunce noticed that it had a long, sharp golden beak and two shiny black eyes.

The bird stopped singing. It sat quietly on Dumbledore's shoulder, gently rubbing Dumbledore's face.

"Your phoenix is really not bad." Bangs said, looking at it.

"Ah, his name is Fawkes. Phoenixes were truly unique and fascinating creatures. Their bodies were covered in amazing red and golden feathers. They can carry extremely heavy things, their tears have healing properties, and they are especially loyal pets.”said Dumbledore leisurely. It was as if he was standing in his own office and not in a terrifying secret room.

"Professor, what if the Basilisk comes?”asked Harry.

"Don't worry, Harry, it won't come out of Salazar's mouth until it's summoned.”Bangs comforted.

"How do I summon it?" said Dumbledore.

"Talk to me, Slytherin, the greatest of the Hogwarts Four.”Bance said.

"How arrogant." said Harry contemptuously, but repeated it in Parseltongue.

Slytherin's enormous stone face moved. Bangs noticed that its mouth had opened, widening until it formed a huge black hole.

"Close your eyes and run back." said Dumbledore sternly.

Bang Si stepped back and hit the dark wall of the secret room. His eyes were tightly closed.

Bang's chamber trembled as a huge object crashed onto the stone floor. He knew what was going on, he could feel it, he could almost see the serpent uncoiling itself from Slytherin's mouth.

Then there was the sound of roosters crowing, and the Basilisk grunted in pain.

Dumbledore's tired voice rang out,""You can open your eyes now."

The Basilisk was writhing in pain, its two yellow lightbulb-like eyes blinded by Fawkes. Dumbledore was drawing his sword from the ragged hat in his bundle and stabbing the dying snake.

"Are you all right, Harry?" asked Bangs.

"No, I haven't." said Harry, wiping the sweat from his forehead.

There was another terrible, prolonged, piercing scream like the one from yesterday, and streams of ink shot out of the diary and onto the floor. And then everything fell silent, save for the sound of ink still dripping from the diary. The snake's venom had burned a hole in the diary, which was still hissing with black smoke.

"You've both been awarded Special Services to the school, and-let's see-yes, you've each won two hundred points for Gryffindor.”said Dumbledore, smiling as he led them back.

"But, Professor, we didn't do anything. You killed the snake yourself.”said Harry foolishly.

"Ah, could I have done it without Bunce's guidance, without your Parseltongue, Harry?”said Dumbledore kindly.

"Please take my hand, Harry, take Bunce's hand.”Dumbledore ordered Bunce.

A strange sense of relief swept over Bangs, and with a whoosh, they all flew up the pipe. The cold air was blowing through Bunce's hair, and while he was still enjoying the flight, the journey was over-they landed on the damp floor of Moaning Myrtle's bathroom, and the sink that covered the pipe slid back into place as Harry dusted his robes.

When Bunce returned to the Headmaster's office under Dumbledore's lead. There was a man in front of the stone beast-Lucius Malfoy, standing there, looking furious. It was Dobby, covered in bandages, who had been pinned under his arm.

"Good morning, Lucius," said Dumbledore kindly.

"Alright!" Lucius Malfoy looked coldly at Dumbledore and said,"Well, well, well.”

" Well, Lucius," said Dumbledore with a smile," the other eleven directors contacted me yesterday. We all agreed that firing you was the best decision.”

"Why?" Lucius asked, his eyes blazing.

"With this." Dumbledore held up the little black book with a large hole through it and watched Mr. Malfoy's reaction.

"I see," said Mr. Malfoy slowly to Dumbledore.

"A clever plan," said Dumbledore calmly, still staring into Mr. Malfoy's eyes."If this Bunce-"-Mr. Malfoy gave Bunce a quick, stern look-"and his friend Harry hadn't found the diary, well-Ginny Weasley might have been the scapegoat. No one can prove that she did not act according to her own will."

Lucius said nothing. His face suddenly seemed to be covered with a mask.

"Imagine," Dumbledore continued,"what would happen if that happened? The Weasleys are one of the most prestigious families of pure wizarding blood. Imagine what would happen to Arthur Weasley and his Muggle Protection Act if it were discovered that his own daughter was attacking and murdering Muggle-born people. Fortunately, the diary had been discovered in time, and Riddle's memory had been erased from it. Otherwise, who knows what the consequences will be?"

Lucius forced himself to speak.

"How fortunate." he said unnaturally.

Dobby, huddled behind him, continued to point strangely first at the diary, then at Lucius Malfoy, and then beat his own head as hard as he could.

"Don't you want to know how Ginny got this diary, Mr. Malfoy?”said Harry.

Lucius Malfoy turned toward him.

"How should I know how that stupid little girl got it? All I care about is why I was fired by the board of directors for no reason.”he said.

"Because you gave it to her," said Harry."You picked up her Transfiguration book at Flourish and Blotts and slipped it inside, didn't you? This is the reason why you were fired."

Lucius's pale hands clenched into fists and then unclenched.

"Do you have evidence?" he said hoarsely.

"Well, there's no evidence," said Dumbledore, beaming at Harry."Riddle's vanished from the book now. Besides, Lucius, I would advise you not to distribute any more of Voldemort's schoolboy stuff. If any of these fall into the hands of innocent people, at least Arthur Weasley will be sure to find out where they came from."

Lucius Malfoy stood still for a moment, and Bunce noticed that his right hand twitched as though he were reaching for his wand. But he restrained himself, turned to his house-elf, and said,

"Let's go, Dobby!"

He wrenched the door open and the house-elf came scurrying over. Mr. Malfoy kicked him out of the door. They could hear Dobby's screams of pain echoing down the corridor.

"Professor Dumbledore," said Harry hastily,"may I return this diary to Mr. Malfoy, please?"”

"Of course, Harry," said Dumbledore calmly."But hurry up, don't forget there's a celebratory feast, and it won't be easy without you."”

Bunce saw Harry seize the diary and rush out of the office.

Bunce had attended several Hogwarts banquets, but none had been as wonderful as this. Everyone was wearing dressing gowns, and the celebration lasted until night. Surprisingly, Lockhart had lost his memory just as he had in the original novel. The four hundred points he and Harry had won had helped Gryffindor defend his House Cup title. Professor McGonagall stood up and told them that the school had decided to cancel the exams in a show of hospitality ("Oh no!”said Hermione); and when Dumbledore announced that unfortunately Professor Lockhart would not be coming back next term because he needed to go somewhere else to recover his memory, there was a great cheer, joined by several teachers.

The rest of the summer term was spent in dazzling sunshine. Hogwarts was back to normal, except for one small change: Defense Against the Dark Arts classes were canceled. Ginny Weasley, on the other hand, was back to her cheerful self.

Before long, they were going home on the Hogwarts Express. Bunce, Harry, Ron, Hermione, Fred, George, and Ginny had a compartment to themselves.

"How did Lockhart lose his memory?”asked Harry.

"Well, thanks to Ron's stupid wand.”said Fred.

"But it was a close call. I passed Lockhart's office that morning and saw him admiring himself, so I couldn't stand it and said something.”said Ron."He seemed to have let slip in his retort that the book wouldn't sell well if people didn't think I did all those things. I told you he was a good-for-nothing, then he tried to cast a Memory Charm on me, but I snatched my wand and threw it away, then he stole my broken wand when I wasn't looking and cast a Memory Charm on me, but it shot backward and hit him. You know the rest."

"Oh, right. Ginny-what did you see Percy doing the other day, when he forbade you from telling anyone?”

"Oh, that," said Ginny, giggling."Well-Percy's got a girlfriend.”

Fred dropped a hand of cards on George's head.

"What?"

"It's a Ravenclaw prefect, Penelope Clearwater.”said Ginny."That's what he wrote to her last summer. He had been secretly dating her all over the school. One day, I caught them kissing in an empty classroom. You won't laugh at him, will you?”she asked uneasily.

"I wouldn't even dream of it, Bons was right.”said Fred, though he looked as happy as if his birthday had come early.

"Absolutely not." replied George, chuckling.

The Hogwarts Express slowed to a halt.

"This is called a phone number." Harry said to Bunce and the others, handing them the numbered parchment. "I told your father how to use the telephone last summer, he'll understand. Remember to call me at the Dursleys, okay? I can't stand talking to Dudley for two whole months."

"Don't give me your number. I don't even have a home.”Bance refused.

"Oh, I'm sorry." said Harry.

"Come and stay with us again this year, we all like you, Bunce.”said Ron.

"Yes, yes." added Fred and George.

"No, I don't want to go to Egypt yet.”Bangs said with a smile.

"Egypt-"

"Your aunt and uncle will be proud of you after hearing what you've done this year.”said Hermione to Harry.

Now they got off the train, joined the crowd, and walked slowly toward the enchanted wall.

"Proud?" said Harry. If they heard that I almost died many times but actually escaped death, they would definitely be furious."

"I'll wait for you at the Leaky Cauldron, Harry.”Bance said.

"Oh." said Harry.

Then, together, they passed through the entrance and returned to the Muggle world.
