Bunce felt as if he had just fallen asleep in his room when Mrs. Weasley woke him up.

"Time to go, Bunce, dear.”she whispered, walking over to wake Ron again.

Bunce sat up drowsily and watched Harry fumble for his glasses in the darkness. It was still pitch black outside. Ron muttered something indistinctly as he was roused by her mother. Bunce saw two shadowy figures emerge simultaneously from beneath the jumbled blanket not far from the foot of the bed.

"What, is it time already?" said Fred sleepily.

Everyone put on their clothes in silence. They were too sleepy to talk. Then, the five of them went downstairs into the kitchen, yawning and stretching.

Mrs. Weasley was stirring a large cauldron on the stove, and Mr. Weasley was sitting at the table, checking a bundle of large parchment tickets. When the boys entered the kitchen, he looked up and spread his arms so that they could see what he was wearing. He was wearing a top that looked like a golf jersey and a pair of very old jeans. The jeans were a little too big for him, so he tied them up with a wide cowhide strap.

"How is it?" he said eagerly."We should go undercover-do I look like a Muggle, Harry?”

"Yes," said Harry, smiling."Very good.”

"Where's Bill and Charley and P-P-Percy?”said George, yawning uncontrollably again.

"Don't they Apparate?”said Mrs. Weasley, setting the cauldron on the table and beginning to scoop porridge into bowls.”

"So they're still sleeping?”said Fred angrily."Why can't we Apparate too?”

"That's because you're not old enough to pass the exam.”Mrs. Weasley shot back. "Where did those two girls go?”

She turned and rushed out of the kitchen, and Bunce heard her hurrying upstairs.

"You have to pass a test to Apparate?”said Harry childishly.

"Oh yes," said Mr. Weasley, stuffing the ticket carefully into the back pocket of his jeans. "The Department of Magical Transportation fined two people the other day for Apparating without a certificate. This was not an easy task. If he did it wrong, he would cause trouble. It was very annoying. The two people I was talking about were separated in the end.”

Everyone at the table except Bunce and Harry frowned.

"Oh-split up?" asked Harry.

"They've left half of themselves behind," said Mr. Weasley, scooping up a large amount of treacle and mixing it into his porridge."So, of course, they're pinned there, immobilized on either side. He could only wait for the incident reversal team to deal with this matter. I'll tell you, it meant a lot of paperwork, and the Muggles saw the bodies they left behind."

"Are they alright?" said Harry, horrified.

"Oh, it's nothing," said Mr. Weasley flatly,"but they got a hefty fine. I don't think they'll rush into anything again. You mustn't play with Apparition. Many adult wizards didn't want to get into this trouble. They preferred brooms-slower, but safer.”

"But Bill, Charlie, and Percy can, can't they?”asked Harry.

"Charlie took the exam twice to pass.”said Fred, grinning."He flunked his first exam, and reappeared five miles south of his original target, right on top of some poor old lady who was shopping, remember?”

"Yeah, but he passed on his second try.”Mrs. Weasley strode back into the kitchen amid a chorus of happy laughter.

"Percy only passed it a fortnight ago.”said George."He's been Apparating downstairs every morning since, just to prove he can.”

Footsteps came from the corridor, and Hermione and Ginny entered the kitchen, both looking pale and half-awake.

"Why do we have to get up so early?”asked Ginny, rubbing her eyes and sitting down at the table.

"We still have a long way to go." said Mr. Weasley.

"Walk?" Harry asked."What, are we going to watch the World Cup on foot?”

" No, no, that's too far," said Mr. Weasley, smiling." We only need to walk a short distance. It was very difficult to get a large number of wizards together without attracting the attention of Muggles. We've got to be very careful, pick the best time to go, on a big occasion like the Quidditch World Cup-"

"George!" said Mrs. Weasley sharply, startling everyone.

"What's wrong?" said George. He wanted to pretend that nothing had happened, but he couldn't fool anyone.

"What's in your pocket?" asked Mrs. Weasley.

"It's nothing!" George said guiltily.

"Don't lie to me!"

Mrs. Weasley pointed her wand at George's pocket and read,"Flying around!"

Some colorful gadgets jumped out of George's pocket. George reached out to grab them, but missed them, and they flew straight into Mrs. Weasley's hands.

"I told you to destroy these things!”said Mrs. Weasley angrily, holding up what was doubtlessly another Tongue Toffee. Empty your pockets, quick, you two!”

"Flying around! Flying around! Flying around!" she shouted, and toffees whizzed out of all sorts of unexpected places, including the inside of George's jacket and the cuffs of Fred's jeans.

"It took us half a year to develop these things!”cried Fred aggrievedly.

"Spending half a year on this, not bad!”squeaked Mrs. Weasley."No wonder the O. W.L. s didn't do well!”

In short, the atmosphere was not very friendly when they left. Mrs. Weasley's face was still stiff as she kissed Mr. Weasley. The twin brothers had an even worse attitude. They threw their rucksacks on their backs and walked out without saying a word.

"Bye, have a good time," said Mrs. Weasley.”she shouted at the twins as they left, but they neither looked back nor answered. "I sent Bill, Charlie, and Percy on their way at noon.”Mrs. Weasley said to Mr. Weasley. Meanwhile, Mr. Weasley, Bunce, Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Ginny were setting off through the dark courtyard behind Fred and George.

The air was cold and the moon was still high in the sky. A faint greyish-green color appeared on the horizon to their right, indicating that dawn was coming.

"How do you think we're going to get there without attracting Muggle attention?”asked Harry.

"It's been a lot of organizing," sighed Mr. Weasley."The main problem is that there's about a hundred thousand wizards and witches coming to watch the World Cup, and of course we can't find a magical venue big enough to hold them. There are places Muggles can't get into, but imagine how we're going to squeeze a hundred thousand wizards into Diagon Alley or Platform Nine and Three-Quarters. So we had to find a deserted swamp and take every precaution against Muggles. The whole Ministry had been busy with this for months. First, of course, we'll have to stagger our arrival times. People with cheap tickets had to arrive a few weeks in advance. Some use Muggle transport, but only a limited number, since we can't have too many people filling up Muggle buses and trains-wizards are coming from all over the world, after all. Of course, there are still people who Apparate, but we have to set up safe places for them to Apparate, away from all Muggles. I think there's a forest nearby that'll be a good place to Apparate. For those who are unwilling or unable to Apparate, we use the Portal Key. The function of this thing was to transport wizards from one place to another within a specified time. If needed, they could transport a large number of people at a time. The Ministry of Magic has dropped nearly two hundred keys all over the country, the nearest of which is at the top of Ferret Hill, where we are heading.”

Mr. Weasley pointed ahead, where a great shadow loomed behind the village of Autrey St. Catchpole.

"What's a portkey?”Harry asked again.

"Ah, all sorts of things," said Mr. Weasley."Of course, they're all inconspicuous, so Muggles won't pick them up and play with them. They'll think they've been thrown away."

They trudged along the dark, damp path toward the village, the only sound in the silence being their own footsteps. As they passed through the village, the sky began to brighten a little, and the darkness gradually turned into a deep blue. Bunce's hands and feet were frozen, and Mr. Weasley kept looking at his watch.

They began to climb Ferret Hill, stumbling over hidden rabbit-holes or slipping on dark, slimy grass, with no breath to speak of. With every breath Bangs took, he felt a sharp pain in his chest and his legs gradually became unable to move. At this moment, he finally realized that he had reached the top of the mountain.

"Yo," said Mr. Weasley, panting as he took off his glasses, wiped them on his jersey,"good, we're on time-ten minutes to go."

Hermione was the last to reach the top of the hill, one hand still clutching her lapel.

"All we need to do now is find the Portkey," said Mr. Weasley, putting on his glasses and squinting around the floor."It won't take long."

"No need, Mr. Weasley, find Mr. Diggory, he's found him.”Bangs panted.

"Oh, then spread out and look for Amos.”said Mr. Weasley, looking up.

In less than two to three minutes, a shout broke through the quiet night sky.

"Here, Arthur! Come here, son, we found it!”

On the other side of the mountain peak, two tall figures stood in the starry night sky.

"Amos!" said Mr. Weasley, smiling as he strode toward the man who had called him. The others followed suit.

Mr. Weasley shook hands with a red-faced wizard with a short brown beard, who was holding an old moldy boot in his other hand.

"Let me introduce everyone. This is Amos 8226. Diggory." said Mr. Weasley."He works in the Department for the Control and Management of Magical Creatures. This is his son Cedric, I believe you have met?”

Cedric Diggory was about seventeen, and an exceptionally good-looking boy. At Hogwarts, he was Captain and Seeker of the Hufflepuff Quidditch team.

"Hi, guys." said Cedric, looking around at them.

Everyone responded with a "hi".

"Quite a walk, eh, Arthur?" asked Mr. Diggory.

"It's all right," said Mr. Weasley."We're just on the other side of the village. What about you guys?"

"Up at two, weren't you, Ced? To tell you the truth, I really hope he passes his Apparition test sooner. But there was nothing to complain about, the Quidditch World Cup was not to be missed, even if it cost a pocket of Galleons-and the tickets did cost that much. However, I managed to cope with it, and it wasn't too difficult. Diggory looked kindly around at the three Weasleys, Harry, Bunce, Hermione, and Ginny.”

"Oh no, the redhead is.”Mr. Weasley pointed out his children. "This is Bunce, Ron's friend-this is Hermione, Ron's friend-this is Harry-"

" Oh my god," Amos said. said Diggory, his eyes widening. Harry Potter?"

"Er-yes," said Harry.

"Of course, Ced talked about you.”said Amos Diggory."He told me you were a Seeker too, and you flew well. I told him, I said-Ced, you're the best, believe in yourself.”

Everyone was not pleased at this, especially Fred and George, who were frowning, and Said, who looked a little embarrassed.

" Don't say that, Dad," he muttered." I told you, I'm not as strong as you think.”

"Yeah, but you're not bad either. You have to have confidence in yourself, right?”Amos said loudly and amiably while patting his son's back." Our Ced is always so modest and gentlemanly."

"It's almost time," said Mr. Weasley quickly, pulling out his pocket watch and looking at it again."Do you know who else we're waiting for, Amos?”

"No, the Lovegoods were there a week ago, and the Fawcett family couldn't get tickets," said Mr. Diggory."There's no one else in the area, is there?”

"As far as I know, there isn't." said Mr. Weasley."Well, we should be in position in a minute."

He turned to Bunce, Harry, and Hermione.

"All you have to do is touch the Portkey, that's all, hold out a finger-"

As everyone was carrying bulging backpacks, the ten of them finally gathered around Amos 8226. Diggory was holding an old boot.

They stood there in a tight circle. A cold breeze blew over the top of the mountain. For a moment, no one spoke.

"Three," muttered Mr. Weasley, staring at his watch."Two, one."

Bons felt as though a hook had been thrust forward at his back with irresistible force, and his feet lifted off the ground. He could feel Harry and Ron on either side of him, their shoulders bumping into his. They flew forward like a gust of wind and could not see anything clearly. Bunce's forefinger clung to the boot as though it had a strong magnetic force, pulling him over, over, and then-

His feet hit the ground hard, Ron staggered into him, and Bunce fell, dragging Harry with him. The door key fell to the ground with a thud.

Bunce looked up. Only Mr. Weasley, Mr. Diggory, and Cedric were still standing, but they also looked disheveled and crooked. The rest had fallen to the ground.

"5:07, from Ferret Mountain.”A voice said.
