"Have you considered joining the club?”said Hermione.

"No, I mean it again, your big dreams are unattainable, Hermione.”Bangs said as he ate his porridge.

"What about you guys?" said Hermione, looking up at Harry and Ron.

"I-I'll pay." said Ron guiltily.

"As long as you can stop and let us have a good breakfast, I'm fine with it.”said Harry.

Hermione opened her mouth to argue, but closed it in the end and began to enjoy her breakfast.

Next, as Bunce had expected, Moody announced that he was going to take turns casting the Imperius Curse on everyone, to demonstrate its power and see if they could resist its effects.

"But-but you said it was illegal, Professor," said Hermione, as Moody waved his wand and pushed the desks aside, leaving a large space in the middle of the room."You said-using it on other people was-"

"Dumbledore wants to show you how it feels," said Moody.

"I don't believe Professor Dumbledore would agree to that, Professor.”Bance said.

said Moody, staring darkly and unblinkingly at Bunce with his magical eyes."If you'd like to learn in a crueler way, Foley-you can go now.”

"Alright then, goodbye." Bangs said as he carried his bag and left.

Bangs heard Ron's faint muttering as he stepped out of the classroom door.”

Walking aimlessly along the corridors of the school, Bunce decided to visit Dumbledore.

He came to the ugly monster on the eighth floor and casually said,"Buzz Buzz Bee Candy? Cockroach pile?"

The monster leapt aside, and Bunce hurried up the spiral staircase to Dumbledore's office door and knocked.

"Please come in." said Dumbledore cheerfully.

"Hello, Professor." Bangs said as he pushed the door open.

"Ah, if I remember correctly, you're in Defense Against the Dark Arts now.”said Dumbledore, smiling.

"I was in class, but Moody kicked me out.”Bance said calmly.

"Can you tell me the reason?" asked Dumbledore, slightly interested.

"Moody wanted to test the class 'will by casting the Imperius Curse on them, and I didn't agree to it, so I was asked to leave the classroom.”said Bunce." By the way, I heard that you agreed to it.”

"You did well. I'll talk to Alastor. He's a little irrational.”said Dumbledore gravely.

"Oh, by the way, the top three are about to begin. Do you have any plans, Professor?”Bangs asked with a smile.

"I'm afraid you already have the answer in your heart.”said Dumbledore, smiling.

"This is my plan. I just don't know what you think, Professor.”Bance said.

"In that case, the one teaching now is fake?”said Dumbledore gravely.

"You noticed?" Bance said.

"No, I've always suspected it. I've known Alastor for a long time. With the information you gave me and all the clues, it's not difficult to guess.”said Dumbledore.

"So what are you going to do, Professor?”asked Bangs.

"I don't agree to the Triwizard Tournament in principle, but as long as you can break my age limit and get the Goblet of Fire to approve of me, there's nothing I can do to stop you.”said Dumbledore, smiling again.

"Do you have a plan for the fake Moody?”asked Bangs.

"I'll have Severus keep an eye on him, make sure my students are unharmed, and I'll have to think about what to do.”said Dumbledore, clasping his fingers.

" Then, let's do it, Professor," Bangs said as he got up and prepared to leave.

"Take care of Harry for me," ordered Dumbledore.

"I'll try my best." Bangs said as he closed the door.

"Where did you go?" said Hermione anxiously.

"sat down at Professor Dumbledore's and talked to him, he's a very knowledgeable man, you know.”said Bunce as they met in the entrance hall.

"Wow, how enviable." said Ron admiringly.

"Did Professor Dumbledore say anything?”asked Harry.

" It's just boring topics," Bunce said." Are you all right?”

"Not good, my knee is still hurting.”said Harry.

They followed the stream of people into the entrance hall, only to find that they could no longer get close, for a large crowd of students was huddled around a large notice erected at the foot of the marble staircase. Ron, the tallest of the four, stood on tiptoe over the heads of the people in front of him and read the notice aloud to them both:

Triwizard tournament

Representatives from Beothbatons and Durmstrang would arrive on Friday, October 30th, around six o'clock in the evening. The afternoon class would end half an hour early.

"That's great!" said Harry."The last lesson on Friday is Potions! Snape won't have time to poison us all!”

Students, please take your school bags and textbooks back to the dormitory and gather in front of the castle to welcome our guests and then attend the welcome banquet.

The announcement in the entrance hall had a clear effect on the people who lived in the castle. For the next week, Bunce could hear people talking about the same topic wherever he was; The Triwizard Tournament. Rumors quickly spread among the students like highly contagious bacteria: Who would fight to be Hogwarts champions, what the tournament would be like, how the students of Beothbatons and Durmstrang would be different from them.

Bangs also noticed that the castle seemed to be thoroughly cleaned. A few dirty portraits had been scrubbed clean, and the people who had been scrubbed were very dissatisfied. They sat huddled in their frames, muttering sullenly, moaning in pain every time they touched the new pink flesh on their faces. The armor suddenly became shiny and no longer creaked when it moved. Filch, the caretaker, flew into a rage when he saw students forgetting to wipe their shoes.

The other staff members were also exceptionally nervous.

"Longbottom, please, don't let the Durmstrang people know you haven't even mastered a simple Conversion Spell!”snarled Professor McGonagall at the end of the lesson. It had been a particularly bad lesson, and Neville had accidentally attached his ear to a cactus.

On October 30th, the air was filled with anticipation and joy. No one was paying attention in class; everyone was thinking that Beothbatons and Durmstrang would be arriving tonight. When the bell rang early, Bunce, Harry, Ron, and Hermione hurried to Gryffindor Tower, dropped their bags and books as instructed, put on their cloaks, and hurried down the stairs to the entrance hall.

The dean was ordering his students to line up.

"Weasley, straighten your hat," said Professor McGonagall sternly."Miss Patil, take that ridiculous thing out of your hair.”

Parvati scowled unhappily and removed a large butterfly headdress from her ponytail.

"Follow me, please," said Professor McGonagall."First years in front, please."

They filed down the steps and lined up in front of the castle. It was a cold, fresh evening, and night was falling. A white, transparent crescent moon hung over the forest. Bunce was standing next to Harry in the fourth row.

"It's almost six," said Ron, looking at his watch and the drive up to the front door."How do you think they'll get here? Take the train?"

"I don't think so." said Hermione.

"Take the flying carriage." Bangs looked up at the sky and said.

"What?" asked Harry.

At that moment, Dumbledore, who was standing in the back row with the other teachers, shouted-

"Ah! If I'm not mistaken, the representative from Beothbatons has arrived!”

"Where?" Many students asked anxiously, looking in different directions.

"There!" shouted a sixth-year, pointing over the forest.

"It's a dragon!" shrieked a first year, so excited he didn't know what to do.

"Don't be silly. It's a house flying!”Dennis said.

Dennis 'guess might be closer. As the dark, enormous thing swept over the trees of the Forbidden Forest and was illuminated by the lights from the castle windows, they saw a large, pink-blue carriage coming toward them. It was as big as a house, and it was being pulled through the air by twelve winged horses, all of them silver-maned, each about the size of an elephant.

The carriage was coming low, descending at breakneck speed, and the people in the first three rows backed away-and then there was such a loud bang that Neville jumped backward, stepped on the foot of a Slytherin fifth-year, and saw the hooves thump to the ground, each the size of a plate. In the blink of an eye, the carriage landed on the ground, shaking on its huge wheels. At the same time, the golden horses shook their huge heads and their big red eyes rolled.

As the door opened, a boy in a light blue robe jumped off the carriage. He bent down and felt for something on the floor of the carriage. Then, he opened a golden spiral ladder. He jumped back respectfully, and Bunce saw a shiny black high heel-the size of a child's sleigh-stick out of the carriage, followed by the largest woman he had ever seen in his life.

Bangs had only ever seen one person as big as this woman in his life, and that was Hagrid. When she stepped into the light pouring out of the entrance hall, she was revealed to have a very handsome olive face, large, dark, watery eyes, and a very pointed nose. Her hair was combed back into a shiny bun at the base of her neck. She was wrapped from head to toe in a black satin dress, and her neck and thick fingers glittered with luxurious opals.

Dumbledore began to clap, and so did the rest of the class, many of them standing on tiptoes to get a better look at the woman.

Her face relaxed, she smiled gracefully, held out a shining hand, and walked toward Dumbledore. Professor Dumbledore, though tall as he was, kissed it almost without bending.

"My dear Madame Maxime," he said,"welcome to Hogwarts.”

"Dumbledore," said Madame Maxime in a low voice,"I wish you well.”

"Very good, thank you." said Dumbledore.

"My student." said Madame Maxime, waving a large hand casually behind her.

There were about twelve or thirteen boys and girls standing behind Maxim. Judging from their appearances, they were all about ten years old, and they were all trembling slightly. This was not surprising, for their robes seemed to be made of fine silk, and none of them wore cloaks.

"Has Karkaroff arrived?" asked Madame Maxime.

"He'll be here any minute." said Dumbledore."Would you rather wait here to welcome him, or go in and warm yourself first?”

"Let's go and warm up first." said Madame Maxime."But the horses-"

"Our Care of Magical Creatures teacher will be more than happy to take care of them," said Dumbledore."He'll be back after a little trouble with some of his-er-other things he has to tend to.”

"Blast-Ended Skrewts," said Ron, grinning.

"My steeds need someone who's-er-very strong to take care of," said Madame Maxime, as though doubting whether the Hogwarts Care of Magical Creatures teacher was up to the task."They're very temperamental."

"Hagrid is perfectly capable of doing the job, I assure you.”said Dumbledore, smiling.

"Very well," said Madame Maxime, bowing slightly."Can you please tell this Hagrid that these horses only drink single malts?”

"I'll take care of it." said Dumbledore, bowing too.

"Come on." said Madame Maxime sternly to her students. And so the Hogwarts crowd parted to let her and her students up the stone steps.

"How big do you think Durmstrang's horse would be?”asked Seamus, leaning forward.

"Well, if they're bigger than these horses, even Hagrid wouldn't be able to handle them," said Harry."I mean, if he hadn't been bitten by those skrewts. I wonder what happened to them?”

"Probably running away." said Ron hopefully.

"Oh, please don't say that," said Hermione, shuddering."Think about it, these guys crawling all over the grounds."

They stood there awaiting the arrival of the Durmstrang delegation. There was a moment of silence, save for the snorting and stamping of Madame Maxime's great horse. At this moment-

"Did you hear anything?" said Ron suddenly.

"In the lake!" Lee Jordan shouted, pointing at the lake.”

They stood on the slope of the lawn in the grounds and could clearly see the calm, dark surface of the water-though it was suddenly no longer calm. There was a commotion in the middle of the lake, a great splash on the surface, waves crashing against the damp shore-and then, right in the middle of the lake, a great whirlpool appeared, as if a great cork had been suddenly pulled out of the bottom.

A long black pole rose slowly from the center of the vortex and Bones saw the sail

"What a magnificent mast." Bance said.

Slowly, very grandly, the ship rose out of the water, shining in the moonlight. It looked very strange, like a skeleton, as if it was the remains of a shipwreck that had just been salvaged. At last, with a splash, the ship rose completely out of the water, and began to sail toward the shore, bobbing on the undulating water. A moment later, they heard a plop as an anchor was thrown into the shallow water, and then a plank hit the shore.

The men were disembarking, and Bangs saw that they were all wearing some sort of furry cloak, the hair of which was unkempt and tangled. But Karkaroff, who was leading them to the castle, had a different kind of fur. It was silvery white, soft and smooth, just like his hair.

"Dumbledore!" Karkaroff called enthusiastically as he ascended the slope."How are you, my dear old fellow?”

"Very well, thank you, Professor Karkaroff.”Dumbledore replied.

"My dear old Hogwarts," he said, smiling up at the castle-his teeth were yellow, and Bunce noticed that, despite his smile, his eyes were still cold and sharp."It's good to be here, it's good, Viktor, come here and warm yourself up, do you mind, Dumbledore?" Viktor's got a bit of the flu."

Karkaroff motioned one of his students forward. As the boy passed, Bunce saw a familiar face. He didn't need Ron's jabbing into his arm, or the whispering of the others, to recognize who it was.

"Wow-it's Krum!"
