Chapter X

The setting sun illuminated the beautiful scenery of the land of elves. The soft and colorful light penetrated the silk curtains and dyed everything in the room golden. But Jill was not in the mood to enjoy the view. He paced nervously for hours.

The entire room fell into dead silence. The wild elf guards rarely talked. When they spoke, they only exchanged a few words in their own language, which sounded like the cries of wild birds. The guards brought in dinner: a basin of fruit and bread, wine and water. After a quick scan of the room, they immediately retreated and closed the door. Alhana couldn't eat anything.

I can't taste it at all, she said. Although Gilsus was in danger, his stomach was still growling with hunger. Not only did he eat his own food, but when he noticed that she was not going to eat, he also ate her portion.

Arhana smiled weakly. The energy of youth. It made people really envious. You are the future hope of our race. Her hands were pressed against her abdomen. You gave me hope.

The night could never truly envelop Quirinesti. The darkness was illuminated by thousands of tiny flames on the trees. Alhana lay down and closed her eyes, trying to get some precious sleep before the dangerous journey at night.

Jill continued to pace in the darkness, trying to sort out the chaotic thoughts in his mind. Home! He really wanted to leave that place. But now, she couldn't wait to go back.

Father will come after me. I know he will. Perhaps I will put him in danger. Jill sighed. I made a mess of everything. No matter what happens to Father, it will be my fault. He warned me not to go. Why didn't I listen to him? What's wrong with me? Why do I have such a strange feeling? I-

He stopped. The voice, in the noisy Quirinastrian elven language, drifted over from afar. Jill became alert, thinking that Arhana's plan might have been discovered. She wondered if she should wake her up. She had already sat up straight with her eyes wide open. She listened for a moment, then sighed with relief.

It was just a few members of Taras Ansia, who were also Lasha's accomplices. They planned to enter the Senator's residence together and discuss the entire process with him.

So, not all the Senators supported Lacharion? The younger members opposed him, but there were too few of them to pose a threat. However, many of the elders were wavering. If Boxiu Tu was here, they wouldn't dare to act rashly. Rasha knew this too.

What if you and I both escape tomorrow and no one can be crowned…Arhana said scornfully. People would wake up in the morning to find that they had lost their king. Lasha would be forced to invite back Monk Bo. Taras Ansia will be forced to disband, and we can continue our lives.

Jill had heard the story of his parents discussing the marriage between Borscht and Alhanna. It was not a happy union, and husband and wife rarely met. Monk Boros was fighting against Lorrak's nightmare at Sivanasti. Alhana had been fighting between the two Elven Kingdoms, trying her best to keep the two kingdoms together. However, even though she did not have much emotion when she mentioned her husband, she did have respect and pride.

Jill looked at her admiringly. As long as I rely on her beauty, I can eat and drink nothing. If she was mine, I would never have any improper thoughts about anything else. How could there be a man who didn't love her? Cultivator Bo must be extremely stupid.

A short cheer came from below. The noise from before quickly faded. They left, Arhanna said. The guards would be more relaxed now. The entire room fell silent again. After confirming that Rasha had left, the wild elf guards outside the door began to chat and laugh. The spear fell on the floor with a crisp sound. More laughter was heard, accompanied by strange collisions.

Jill looked at Arhanna in confusion.

What you hear is the sound of a short stick being thrown to the ground. The wild elves were playing their own game. As soon as Rasha left, they would do the same. But don't misunderstand that they were in a state of carelessness. If you tried to open the door, they would immediately pick up their spears and be on full alert.

Then how are we going to escape? Jill had just asked around. This floor was very high above the garden.

Samar had planned everything, and Arhana didn't want to say anything more. Time continued to pass. Jill looked around nervously.

How long would Taras Anthea's party last? After a long time, Arhana said in a low voice. After all, they were planning to overthrow the throne.

Judging from the wild elves 'laughter and increasingly excited quarrels, the game seemed to be getting more and more exciting. Jill walked to the door and pressed her face against it, wanting to hear it more clearly. Perhaps in the future, he could find someone to play this game and learn how to play it. The short stick clanged, and then there would be a period of breathless silence, followed by surprised complaints or cries of surprise. In the end, the winner would cheer, while the loser would curse and complain.

Then, a strange sound suddenly appeared. Good night, gentlemen. Who won? Arhana stood up with a deathly pale face. It was Samar, she whispered. Get away from the door! Hurry up!

Jill jumped back immediately. He heard the sound of people scrambling for weapons outside the door. Soon, a strange incantation interrupted all the sounds. What replaced it was a suppressed cry and a few heavy collisions, as if a body had fallen to the ground. Everything ended in less than ten seconds. The door opened. A young Elven Warrior walked in.

Samar! My most trusted friend. Arhana smiled at him. She was elegant and calm as if she was in her own palace. She reached out her hand.

My Empress! Sama knelt on one knee. He lowered his head in reverence.

Jill looked out the door curiously. The wild elves fell unconscious on the ground. Some of them were still holding spears in their hands. There seemed to be a scroll in the middle of the room that was burning. The scroll was completely devoured by the flames in front of Jill. Green smoke drifted into the stagnant air.

Jill was ready to get closer to take a closer look. " Be careful, young man," Sama warned. He stood up quickly and pulled Jill back. Don't go near the smoke, or you'll sleep soundly like them.

This was Prince Gilthas, the son of Rolana Solastrum and the half-elf Tannis, Alhana. This is Samar from the National Guard.

Sama glanced at Gill with a cold but approving gaze. The young man suddenly felt that he was very weak in front of this experienced warrior. Sama nodded coldly at the young man, then immediately turned to the queen.

Your Majesty, everything is ready. The Lion Beast is waiting for us in the wilderness. When they heard that Lasha was holding you hostage, they were furious. Sama said solemnly. I don't think he'll ever be able to ride a Lionheron again. If you are ready, we should leave immediately. Where's your luggage? I'm willing to bear it for you.

Old friend, I'm light and simple. Arhana spread her hands. But your jewels, my queen-

The most important thing is me. She pointed at a ring on her finger. This is my husband's token of loyalty and trust. Everything else was fleeting.

Sama frowned. They took the jewels from you, didn't they, Your Grace? How could they have such guts?

Arhana's voice was gentle but firm. Those jewels belonged to the people of Quirinesti. Samar, this is a small matter. You're right. We should leave immediately.

The warrior bowed silently. The guards downstairs were also silenced. We'll go that way. Empress, please cover your mouth and nose. " Prince, you too," he simply ordered Jill. Don't breathe in the magic smoke.

Arhana covered her mouth and nose with a silk handkerchief. Jill covered her mouth and nose with the hem of her cloak. Sama held the hilt of his sword and led the way. They stepped over the wild elf's body and carefully walked around the smoking magic scroll. When they reached the front of the stairs, Saima signaled them to pause.

Stay here. he whispered. He took a few steps and looked around. After confirming that everything was safe, he waved his hand and gestured for Arhana and Jill to follow.

Halfway up the last flight of stairs, Sama suddenly grabbed Alhana and dragged her into the shadows. The warrior looked at Jill with a stern gaze and went back nervously! He asked him to do as he was told. He did not move and leaned against the wall, not daring to breathe.

This time, a female wild elf walked out from the arch under their feet. She was holding a silver plate filled with fruits. She hummed a song and walked lightly across the aisle toward the garden illuminated by many faint lights. Another wild elf servant met the woman at the door. They discussed for a moment. Jill heard the word banquet in the Nasti language. The two of them then walked into the garden.

Jill was very surprised. How did Samar hear that woman approach? Her bare feet were as light as the wind, and other than humming a song, there were no other clues. Gill looked at Samar with admiration, who was apologizing to the queen in a low voice.

Forgive me, Your Majesty, I had no choice. Samar, there's nothing to forgive. Let's move quickly and leave before she comes back.

The three of them quickly and silently rushed down the stairs. Sama held the door handle. The door opened, but it was not opened by the warrior.

Senator Lasha was standing outside the door.

What was going on? He looked at Arhana and the warrior in surprise. The Senator's face was trembling with anger. Guards! Catch them!

Clad in the city guard uniform and armed with a sword, the Quirinastri elf rushed past Lasha. Sama pulled out his sword and stood in front of the queen. The guards also drew their swords.

Gill was unarmed, and even if he had a weapon, he didn't know how to use it. The only sound in his ears was the beating of his heart. When Rasha first appeared, he was almost paralyzed by fear. Now, that fear had evaporated. Jill's blood boiled. He felt a little dizzy, but he remained calm and prepared for battle. He was so nervous that he wanted to jump out…

Don't do anything stupid! Arhana rushed into the midst of the soldiers who were ready to fight. Her soft and white hands grabbed Saima's blade and pushed away the guard who was threatening him.

Samar, take your weapon away, she ordered in Sivanasti, her voice trembling with anger and excitement. But my queen! he pleaded. Samar! This is my order! she replied.

Sama slowly and unwillingly lowered his sword. However, he did not sheath his sword. Arhana turned to face Rasha.

So this was the final result, she said. The elves were killing each other. Lasha, is this what you want?

Arhana reached out her hand. Her palm was a bloody mess.

Lasha was unmoved. He was expressionless. The guards of Quirinastri looked very uneasy. They put down their weapons and took a step back. Gill stared at the blood on the queen's hand, feeling ashamed of his bloodthirsty desire.

I didn't put us on this path, ma 'am, Rasha said coldly. You did. Because of your attempt to escape, you have overthrown the legal norms of Taras Ansia.

It was legal! Arhana looked at him contemptuously. I am your queen. You have no right to go against my will and put me under house arrest!

Even the Empress couldn't go beyond the law. We know about the secret agreement, Your Majesty. We know that you and that traitor, Monk Bo, are planning to sell us out to the enemy.

Arhana stared at him in confusion. Secret agreement…

It was called the International Alliance. said Lasha contemptuously. This is a treaty that will make us slaves and humiliate our country!

No, Senator. You don't understand! You misunderstood!

Do you deny that you have secret conversations with humans and dwarves?

" I don't deny it," Arhana said without losing her dignity. Our meeting must be kept secret. The situation was too delicate and dangerous. There are some things in this world that you don't know at all. You don't understand at all-you're right, ma 'am, interjected Rasha. I really don't understand. I don't understand why you want to cede our land and restrict our freedom.

Arhana was unmoved and very calm. You ignorant boor, but that's not important. Our negotiation was legal. We didn't break any laws.

On the contrary, my lady! Lasha lost her patience. The Elven laws required that all contracts must be approved by Taras Ancia!

We're going to hold a hearing in the Senate. I can swear to you-

The oath of the Sivanasti elves? Lasha laughed disdainfully.

Please forgive me, my queen, forgive my disobedience. Sama said in a low voice. He grabbed Arhana and pushed the queen to Jill for protection.

The Sivanasti elf raised her sword and charged at Rasha.

The guards of Quirinesti surrounded him. Swords and sabers clashed, metal clashing. Rasha hid in a safe corner. Jill stood in front of Arhanna. He watched in fear, completely powerless to intervene.

Quirinastri's guards had a four-to-one advantage over Samar. He fought with all his might, but the other side still relied on the advantage of numbers to disarm him. Even after his weapon was taken away, he continued to resist. The guards kept beating him with their fists and swords until he fell to the ground.

It was the first time in Jill's life that she had seen her son bleed because of violence. The sight and the anger in his chest made him want to vomit.

Alhana knelt beside the unconscious Samar.

This person was seriously injured. She looked up at the elf. Bring him to the doctor. The guard turned to Lasha. Is this your order, Senator?

Arhana bit her lip with a pale face.

Rasha once again took control of the situation. Bring him to the doctor. After they finished treating him, they threw him into prison. He had to pay with his life for this treasonous act. Send a guard back to the Senate with me. I must inform them of what has happened. The rest of them escorted Arhana Starlight back to her room. No, Prince Gilthas, not you. I want to talk to you in private.

Jill shook her head hatefully.

Arhana stood up, walked to his side, and patted his arm. You are the Prince of Quirinesti, she told him sincerely. He was also the son of the half-elf Tanis. Your courage is enough to face all of this. Gill didn't quite understand, but he thought that if he refused to talk to Rasha, it might cause more trouble. Are you alright, Empress Arhanna? He especially emphasized the word 'Emperor'. She smiled at him. Then, under the escort of the guards, he left the room in a noble manner.

After she left, the Senator turned to Gill.

Prince, I'm sorry that such an unfortunate thing has happened. I am willing to take full responsibility. I shouldn't have let you get along with that cunning woman. I should have known that she would deceive you into conspiring with her. But you are safe now, Prince. Lasha comforted him. I'll find a place for you to stay for the night.

Jill knew how her father would react in such a situation. Tanis would swallow the bitterness in his mouth and punch Rasha. The more pressure you were under, the more you had to maintain your elegance.

Beating up Rasha wouldn't solve anything. On the contrary, it would only make the situation worse. Jill knew what her mother would do.

Jill sighed regretfully and regained his calm expression, not revealing any emotional fluctuations. He had seen this expression on his mother's face more than once.

Thank you for your concern, Senator.

Lasha nodded and continued. Prince Gilthas, the members of Taras Ansya would like to meet you. They asked me to bring you to the meeting tonight. This is also the reason why I came back early. I've been ordered to take you to the Senate. Don't you think I'm lucky? This meant that the gods were still on my side.

At least one god was, Gill thought. Or should I call her a goddess?

But you don't look too good. Lasha's face was filled with sympathy. This was not surprising. You're really in danger by that dangerous woman's side! he said in a low voice. Some said she was a witch. No, no. Don't try to speak, Prince. I will convey your apology to the Senate. Please, Senator, Gill said. He could also play politics. He only hoped that he could understand the rules of the game better.

Lasha bowed. Prince Gilthas, please sleep well tonight. You still have a busy schedule tomorrow. It was not every day that someone had to be crowned.

The Senator gestured and summoned the wild elf servant. Take the prince to a new room and stay away from the witch. Don't let him be disturbed.
