The crows

At the gate of Guangming Primary School, the students were like a group of excited birds. They swarmed out of the campus and quickly dispersed.

When Zhong Qiang walked out slowly, there was no one at the school gate. He looked back at the school, which was shrouded in silence. He saw the old man in the duty room watching the black and white television with a smile and glancing at him from time to time.

Shen He walked past him and said,""Zhong Qiang, I'll be leaving first."

"Oh." Zhong Qiang kicked the pebbles casually and looked up at Shen He, who was leaving. His mind was in a mess. Many horrible experiences that he should not have had at his age were flying around him like flies. It was annoying.

Zhong Qiang walked towards the setting sun, looking lonely and unsociable.

Suddenly, the sound of a motorcycle engine approached. A tall figure appeared in front of him, and a large hand gently patted his shoulder.

"Dad." Zhong Qiang raised his head and mumbled softly.

Zhong Shu smiled and patted his son's head." Get in the car and go home!”

Zhong Qiang lowered his head again and said to him pitifully,"Dad, can we not go home?"

Zhong Shu's heart sank, but he still pretended to be surprised." Why?”

Zhong Qiang raised his head and looked at Zhong Shu's weathered face, unable to say a word.

Zhong Shu's mouth moved, and he hugged his son tightly in his arms. Needless to say, he understood his son's thoughts.

"Where else can we go? Be good, Xiaoqiang. Daddy is here. Daddy is a policeman. When Daddy catches the bad guy, you don't have to be afraid.”Zhong Shu smiled at his son.

Zhong Qiang pouted and nodded, then reluctantly sat on the back seat of the motorcycle.

"Sit tight." Zhong Shu helped his son put on a safety helmet, then started the motorcycle and sped away.

In the west, the sun was falling into the depths of the earth reluctantly.

"Come, Xiao Qiang, try your dad's cooking.”Zhong Shu placed a large plate of braised saury in front of his son.

Zhong Qiang did not move at all, as if he did not hear Zhong Shu at all.

Zhong Shu smiled again and said,"Xiao Qiang, this is your favorite food." Come, eat more." He kept putting fish slices into his son's bowl.

Zhong Qiang still didn't move. His fingers kept drawing on the dining table.

Zhong Shu sighed. His eyes were a little moist, and a sour feeling surged in his heart.

If Xiaoling was here, her son would never have become like this.

"Dad, I miss Mom."

Zhong Qiang's words pulled Zhong Shu back to reality from the memories of the past, making him feel even more uncomfortable.

Zhong Shu said calmly,"Your mother is busy with work. She will be back in a few days."”

Zhong Qiang looked at him angrily and shouted,""You liar! You always say that Mom is busy with work, but she hasn't been back for months!”

Zhong Shu looked at his son in surprise." Don't let your imagination run wild. Mommy will be back soon. You have to study hard. When the time comes, you will…"

"Mommy will never come back!" Zhong Qiang interrupted him rudely.

After all, his son was already ten years old. It was only a matter of time before he knew the truth.

Zhong Shu didn't know what to say to him. Perhaps when he grew up, he would understand all of this.

Just as he was about to say something to his son, Zhong Qiang had already left the dining table and returned to his room.

Zhong Shu heard the sound of the door closing. This sound seemed to have completely cut off the emotional communication between him and his son.

He stared blankly at the table, feeling a panic that he had never felt before.

At night, Zhong Shu couldn't sleep because of his son's problem. He took out a cigarette in the dark and smoked it. The sparks flickered and drew a dazzling arc from time to time.

He looked at his watch. It was already past midnight.

The surroundings were really quiet. One could vaguely hear the sound of Zhong Qiang turning over.

Zhong Shu remembered that when he brought his son home, he saw the young man who had just moved in next door muttering something under the stairs with an uneasy expression.

Perhaps, he had also heard the sound coming from underground and was looking for the entrance to the basement!

At first, Zhong Shu also felt that it was very strange. There was no basement, so where did the sound come from? Later, he went to various floors to listen and confirmed that the sound really came from underground.

Zhong Shu couldn't lie down anymore. He felt that the air in the room was very stuffy. He put out his cigarette and got out of bed. He first listened in front of his son's door for a while before quietly walking out.

Zhong Shu opened the door and walked around the stairs. He saw the old man again.

He seemed to have been standing at the entrance of the building, staring upstairs, but his actions made Zhong Shu have the illusion that he was clearly staring at him.

Zhong Shu moved his fingers, and a chill ran through his body.

What exactly did he do?

Zhong Shu pondered over the old man who had suffered through the vicissitudes of life in front of him. He really couldn't guess his identity. He had no choice but to turn around and come back. He couldn't help but think of the shadow that had flashed past in the corridor.

Suddenly, Zhong Shu stopped in his tracks.

It was that ghost again!

Zhong Shu stared at the floor uneasily.

It was underground.

After a week, Wu Tong felt fear at home for the first time.

Every night, the sound from underground made him feel that there was a third person in the room. He had gone to the bottom of the stairs to take a look, but there was no basement at all. How could he explain the sound from underground?

Last night, when Wu Tong was in a daze, he felt a shadow in front of him. It was as if someone was standing quietly at the head of the bed and staring at him. He opened his eyes, but there was nothing in front of him.

When he told Li Tong about this, she only rolled her eyes at him, but her face still showed fear. It could be seen that the voice underground was indeed very scary.

Li Tong went to work and would only get off work at nine o'clock in the evening. She told him not to wait for her for dinner.

For the entire day, Wu Tong was always in a trance and upset, as if something was about to happen.

He had been typing on the computer the entire day. When he was tired of typing, Wu Tong suddenly wondered why the building was so quiet. His house was on the first floor. There should be many people passing by his house, but now he felt like he had entered a vacuum world and could not hear anything.

The streets outside the window were bustling with traffic, and he couldn't hear anything.

Although the landlord had told him that it was quiet here before he moved in, it was still unbearable.

Wu Tong sneaked into the corridor and listened carefully. The corridor was eerily quiet.

He suddenly felt a chill run down his spine. He couldn't help but wonder if there was no one in the building.

He looked around. There was someone living in room three. It was the middle-aged man with a slightly dark face.

He leaned his ear against the door of room number one. The dead silence inside gave him goosebumps all over and he quickly ran back to his room.

His stomach started to growl. Wu Tong looked at his watch. It was six o'clock in the afternoon. He turned off his computer, grabbed his jacket, put it on, and went out to eat.

Because of Li Tong's work, Wu Tong had to solve the problem of eating alone every night. He didn't have to worry about her because the company would provide supper for her.

For the past week, Wu Tong had been eating at a restaurant. The restaurant was not big and the prices were reasonable, attracting many people.

Wu Tong pushed open the dining room door.

"What are we eating today?" The boss was a skinny old man. When he saw Wu Tong come in, he immediately greeted him with a smile.

"Red braised pork." Wu Tong found a seat and sat down.

"Okay, braised pork." The boss shouted into the kitchen, and immediately, there was the sound of cooking.

Other than Wu Tong, there was also a middle-aged man who was eating with his head lowered. When he saw the boss walk over, he raised his head and started chatting with him.

Wu Tong suddenly heard the man mention the words "Ghost House".

Ghost Tower? Wu Tong was usually interested in such supernatural events, so he paid attention to their conversation.

"I heard that there are people moving into Ghost Tower again. These people are probably crazy.”the man said in a mocking tone.

"Someone moved in? That person must be a strange person. I saw that the residents there were all fighting to leave, but there was actually someone who squeezed in there. It was really strange.”The boss said seriously, his expression very serious.

"Who knows! Perhaps he was a foreigner and did not know the situation there.”The man quickly took a mouthful of rice, and a few grains of rice stuck to the corner of his mouth.

"Looks like it's true, sigh!" The boss sighed.

The two of them chatted for a while until more customers arrived. The boss then got up and went to work.

After a while, the man put down his bowl and chopsticks, paid the bill, and left.

When the braised pork was served, Wu Tong was really hungry and wolfed it down.

The boss happened to walk over, and Wu Tong asked,""Just now, I heard you guys talking about the Ghost Tower?”

The boss opened his mouth in surprise and said,"Don't you know?"”

"I don't know." Wu Tong put a mouthful of rice into his mouth.

"About 200 meters north, you will see a single building in the single-story Pingfang District. That is the ghost building.”

Wu Tong couldn't help but put down his chopsticks and look up at him.

The boss was a little at a loss. He smiled and said,"Do you know?"

A single-story building in the Pingfang District? Wasn't that where he lived?

Wu Tong swallowed the food in his mouth and asked,"Why is it called this?"

"Because there's a ghost living in that building," the owner said mysteriously.”

The chopsticks in Wu Tong's hand fell to the ground.

Li Tong's boss was called Mo Shaolin, and he held the position of general manager. He was a big fat man. As his name suggested, he did not have a single hair on his head. It was as if he had returned from Shaolin Temple. His small eyes, which were almost covered by flesh, would always reveal an ambiguous gaze. Especially when he saw young and beautiful women, even his originally cold and stone-like fat face would glow red.

Li Tong had outstanding looks and was a high-level manager in the company. She had many opportunities to interact with him. Every time she reported to him, she could feel the passion in his small eyes. This made her even more careful with Mo Shaolin.

Wu Tong was supposed to pick her up at the supermarket entrance at nine o'clock every day, but for some reason, he didn't show up today. She watched her colleagues leave one by one accompanied by their husbands or boyfriends. She felt really bad. When someone asked her why she was still not leaving, she could only force a smile and say that Wu Tong would be here in a while.

When most of his colleagues had left, Mo Shaolin drove his Mercedes-Benz out. Seeing that she had not left, he rolled down the window and stuck his head out to ask,""Xiao Li, let me send you home."

"Ah, there's no need. Wu Tong will be here in a while.”Although she said that, her heart was empty. She longed to take a ride back, but she really did not have a good impression of Mo Shaolin.

Mo Shaolin looked at her hesitantly and asked a few more questions. After hearing her rejection again, he drove away.

Looking at the empty street, Li Tong suddenly felt lonely, as if she was the only one left in the world.

She began to walk slowly towards her home. It was only when a gust of cold wind blew against her face that she remembered to hail a taxi. Coincidentally, there was not a single car on the road, so she could only hope to hail a taxi as she walked.

There was no one on the street. Everything looked so strange.

The loud footsteps knocked on the ground and traveled very far. She felt that someone was following her closely, which made her quicken her pace.

Damn Wu Tong, where did he go!

As she walked, Li Tong cursed in her heart.

She should have gone home earlier, but the general manager asked her to work overtime. She was full of complaints and had nowhere to vent. She wanted to call Wu Tong to pick her up, but his phone was turned off, so she had to come back alone.

He finally saw home.

Li Tong's tense nerves finally relaxed. Among the rows of windows upstairs, only a few windows were still lit. The familiar window on the first floor was especially bright.

Li Tong heaved a sigh of relief and slowed down her pace.

There was someone behind him!

At first, she thought it was her own footsteps, but after listening carefully, there was indeed someone behind her. She turned around abruptly.

In the dark night, a figure was hidden under a street lamp not far away. The light was a little dim, so she could not see if it was a person.

Fear surged into Li Tong's heart.

Every night, she was afraid of the ghost-like voice underground. Fortunately, Wu Tong was by her side. Otherwise, she would have really collapsed.

Could it be the general manager? Li Tong thought.

Hearing that someone was following her, Li Tong naturally thought of Mo Shaolin. In her eyes, he was a terrifying man who would do anything.

Li Tong gave up on her ladylike image and ran home. As she ran, she looked back. Although she couldn't see anyone, she could still hear footsteps behind her, like a hunter stalking her prey. It really scared her.

When Li Tong turned back to look, her heart tightened.

A dark figure appeared behind her as if it had fallen from the sky and was walking towards her quickly.

Coincidentally, the street lamp above her head was broken, so Li Tong couldn't see the other party's face clearly.

She sped up and ran forward. She opened her mouth wide and wanted to shout, but her throat seemed to be blocked by something. She couldn't make a sound, and her legs didn't listen to her. She just watched the shadow approach her.

The shadow caught up with her and passed by her quickly, as if it didn't see her at all.

Li Tong stared at the shadow in shock. She slowed down and realized that her entire body was covered in sticky sweat.

The moment the two of them brushed past each other, Li Tong realized that it was a man in black with a black top hat on his head. His pale face was difficult to hide even in the dark night, and it was very eye-catching.

There was a strong smell of tobacco in the breeze.

The man quickly walked into the building not far away. Li Tong no longer felt afraid and jogged into the building. The man was long gone.

Li Tong didn't think much about it. When she thought of Wu Tong, she was angry and knocked on the door fiercely. Suddenly, she felt something sticky on her palm. She didn't know what it was.

Wu Tong opened the door for her, and she shouted aggrievedly,"Why didn't you come to pick me up so late? I called you, but you actually turned off your phone!”

Wu Tong picked up his phone and smiled at her in embarrassment." If you didn't tell me, I wouldn't have known that my phone was out of battery.”

"You don't care about me at all. Why didn't you come and pick me up?”

Wu Tong looked at her innocently." It's only seven o'clock now. I was wondering why you got off work early.”

Seven o'clock? It was already past ten o'clock!

Li Tong was so angry that she took out her phone and showed it to him." Seven o'clock? Take a good look at the time!"

Wu Tong took the phone and looked at it. He was stunned. He raised his wrist again. The watch clearly showed that it was 7:15.

"What's going on?" Wu Tong fell heavily onto the sofa.

Li Tong grabbed his wrist and was also stunned. Then she suddenly put down his hand as if there was a poisonous snake on it.

"This is…I know, you must have tampered with the watch.”

Wu Tong immediately raised his head and retorted,"Don't you know what kind of person I am? How could I tamper with the watch?”He stared at the floor and muttered to himself,""I just charged my phone yesterday. Why is it out of battery today? And why did the watch slow down?"

"Could someone have come in?" Li Tong's anger subsided a little as she said in a trembling voice.

Wu Tong gave her a strange look." That's impossible. Other than sleeping, I always wear my watch on my wrist. Could it be…"

He suddenly remembered the shadow that appeared at the head of the bed last night, and his scalp couldn't help but feel a chill.

The two of them looked at each other and felt that they were trapped in a mass of omnipresent terror.

Li Tong remembered that her hand had touched something sticky when she knocked on the door. She looked under the light and saw that her hand was covered in scarlet liquid.

"What is this?" She screamed in horror.

Wu Tong widened his eyes and asked nervously,""What is this? How did you get it?"

"When I knocked on the door…it was on the door!”

Wu Tong opened the door and looked at the door. He was immediately shocked.

There was a red handprint on the door.#
