new Testament
January 1992, Moscow.
Just a month ago, the great Soviet Union collapsed. It used to be a dragon in the east of the world. It was only when it fell that people realized that it was already weak. The proud citizens of Moscow suddenly realized that they had lost their pride. The food rationing system was abolished, and the ruble depreciated wildly. The money that could buy a small Volga sleeping car was now only enough to buy a loaf of rye bread. Overnight, they became a destitute race. The streets were covered in snow and empty. There were no pedestrians. The cars were huddled in the alleys and rusted. The portrait of the Soviet leader was still on the wall, but it had been torn apart.
On a lonely morning, the thin shadow walked alone on the street, the long hem of his windbreaker sweeping the snow. The veteran sat on the frozen Moscow River, fishing while drinking inferior vodka.
"May I ask how to get to the Academy of Sciences Library?”Someone asked from behind.
The veteran turned around and saw a big boy standing on the ice. He was obviously Asian, about 13 or 14 years old. He was wearing a thin black trench coat and a fine cashmere scarf. His black leather shoes were spotless. These expensive clothes could only be bought in the black market for US dollars. The veteran looked at the child enviously.
Without needing the veteran to speak, the boy tactfully handed over a bottle of aged liquor. This stuff was a hard currency in Moscow, but as a gift for asking for directions, it was too generous.
"You've asked the right person. I've been guarding the door at the Academy of Sciences since I retired. Go south along the road and pass the Petrov Theater. You will see a crossroad and turn right.”The veteran couldn't wait to open the bottle of good wine.
"Is there a Professor Yevgeny Cicelin in the library?”the boy asked again.
"Chichelin? Hah! What professor? He's just a librarian! He was an ignorant and incompetent fellow, and his professor's qualification was revoked.”The veteran said disdainfully," You're looking for him?”
"I have a friend who wants to send his regards.”The boy turned around and left.
"For the great Soviet Union!" The veteran raised his wine bottle and shouted at Red Square.
" All great eras have an end," the boy said, raising his collar to block the wind and looking at the falling snowflakes." Just like all the kings will die.”
"Woman! Women!" In the library of the Academy of Sciences, a drunk man shouted," Where did you put my wine?”
This used to be the place where the top scientists of the Soviet Union discussed academics, but now it was deserted like an abandoned woman. The navy blue wool carpet was full of water stains, the bookshelves were toppled, and precious academic books were scattered all over the ground. Precious research materials were burning in the fireplace, but the temperature in the room was still below zero.
"Yevgenius, you useless man! You can live on wine! It's best if you get drunk!" A woman's angry scolding came from the bathroom." I really regret marrying a piece of trash like you!”
The bathroom door was kicked open with a bang, and the middle-aged woman strode out, glaring fiercely at the drunkard. There was a huge difference between this couple. The man was half-bald and had a fat belly. Because he drank too much all year round, his nose was as red as a light bulb. His wife, however, was still as graceful as ever. She had a head of platinum long hair and her eyes were a little seductive. She was wearing stiletto heels and a low-cut dress. She looked majestic.
"Find a mirror and look at your dog-like face! Other husbands knew how to find ways to earn some money. They would go to the black market to buy some food or at least get some charcoal to keep warm! What about you? You only know how to shout here when you're drunk! Who do you think you are? You're no longer a professor! You're just a librarian. Your monthly salary isn't even enough to buy me a pair of stockings!”The woman mercilessly poked her husband's sore spot. At the same time, she stepped on the chair and patted her thigh to show off her expensive imported stockings. The man was so angry that his face turned red. Are you going out to dance again? I told you not to go out dancing! Those men were just taking advantage of you while you were dancing!”
"Shut up! My friends are all gentlemen! They didn't drink too much and were polite to women. They knew how to give small gifts to women at the ball!”The woman sneered." Yevgenius, you drunkard! I've had enough! I want to divorce you! The cigarettes you smoke are all gifts from my boyfriends! You trash!"
The man swung his fist furiously.
"You dare to hit me? If you dare to hit me, I'll go to the court and apply for a divorce now!”The woman moved her pretty face closer." Come on!”
The man was dumbfounded and stood there in a daze. After a while, he sat down on the chair tiredly." You were just a country girl back then…I brought you to Moscow…to see the upper class…"
"What right do you have to say that?" The woman screamed," You were the one who gave my precious daughter to the country in exchange for the title of professor!”
"Don't mention that professor title!" The man hugged his bald head dejectedly." They lied to me! They don't think I deserve to be a professor. They just want my daughter. If Renata was still here…If Renata was still here, she might be able to help us.”
He raised his head, his drunken eyes filled with desire. He staggered behind his wife and caressed her mature and seductive body."Honey, let's have another child. We're not young anymore. We need a child to replace Renata.”
The soft cough startled the man and made him realize that this was still the library and not his bedroom.
The boy pushed open the door of the library, carrying a brown KGB briefcase and a long black trench coat covered in snow. He covered his mouth with his fist and coughed. His eyes were lowered. He was probably a little embarrassed to have accidentally broken the couple's private conversation.
"Is this comrade Yevgeniy Cicelin?”He walked to the table and sat down. He put his briefcase aside and asked like an experienced KGB officer.
"It's me. You are?" The man was a little puzzled.
"You look too young?" The boy flashed his ID." I'm the officer in charge of shutting down Project Delta. I'm from the KGB.”
"KGB?" The man looked uneasy. He had also been drinking buddies with a few low-level KGB officers and recognized the KGB officer's ID. The ID the boy showed showed that he was over 20 years old and came from the General Affairs Bureau of the KGB, which was the core management organization of the KGB. The KGB was a very complicated organization. It was difficult for outsiders to see the whole picture. There were all kinds of people inside. This boy who looked to be 13 or 14 years old did indeed have the unique murderous aura of a KGB officer.
"I spent some time with Renata Yevgeniy Chichelin at the research base in northern Siberia.”The boy took out a document from his briefcase and handed it to the man." According to this birth certificate, she is your daughter.”
The man threw the document on the table as if he was throwing away a piece of charcoal. He looked at the boy nervously."Did…did something happen to her?”
"No, it's nothing. However, Project Delta has been officially terminated. All participants of the project will be sent back. Your daughter is under the age of 18 and should be under the custody of her parents. I'm here to handle this procedure. Are you very worried about her?"
"No, no!" The former professor of the Academy of Sciences, Cicelin, and his wife waved their hands together." As long as she doesn't cause trouble!”
"Trouble? " For example…" The boy raised his eyebrows.
"She's not a normal girl. She was born with problems!”There was a mysterious look in Madam Chichelin's eyes.
"Oh? I'll make a note in the file." The boy opened the folder.
Mr. Chichelin was silent for a moment." She was born to imitate everything! When she was two years old, she could already understand my calculus-based calculations, and her mental arithmetic speed was even faster than mine!”
"This can only mean that she's a child prodigy, right?”
"At first, I thought she was a child prodigy, and I was sincerely happy about it. However, I soon realized that her abnormality could not be explained by a child prodigy. Once, I found her dismantling the radio at home and reassembling it from the parts.”said Mr. Chichelin loudly." A three-year-old girl who has never learned anything about radio. How did she do it?”
" There aren't many electronic components in the radio. Maybe she just has a superhuman memory and forced herself to remember the order of assembly. The boy shook his head." Children are very good at imitating.
"But I have to tell you that the radio is broken! After her assembly, it was repaired! She modified the circuit while reassembling the radio. The radio originally consisted of 178 electronic components, but she only used 167 of them to assemble a working radio. Among the 11 parts she saved, there happened to be a few burnt out transistors!”Mr. Chichelin sounded frightened." She only opened the back of the radio, took a look at the components inside, and mastered how it worked. This was definitely not the intelligence that a human should have! This intelligence surpassed the limits that God had set for humans!”
The boy raised his eyebrows and thought, Professor Chichelin, sometimes you talk more like a priest than a scientist.''
"No, no, scientists don't have to deny the existence of God. Science can be used to explain God.”Professor Chichelin hurriedly explained," This is my research project, Genetic Theology.”
" Alright, Genetic Theology." The boy nodded." Then why do you think your daughter is a demon? Maybe she's a god."
"If I hadn't seen her putting the radio together, I might have believed she was an angel. " But I saw it with my own eyes," said Mrs. Chichelin, stroking her plump chest." Her eyes turned a strange golden color, and her expression was more ferocious than devoted. She stared at the electronic components without any emotion. It was suffocating! I was really scared!"
"This is amazing. I didn't expect her to be so special.”The boy played with the pen but did not write a word." And then?”
Mr. and Mrs. Chichelin looked at each other."For the sake of science, we donated her to the country.”
"Oh?"
"She is a unique research subject! Her cells, her DNA, her bones, and her brain stem were all treasures! If the US knew that there was someone like her, who knew how much they would pay to snatch her away!”Mr. Chichelin said with certainty.
"The file shows that you were once awarded the title of Professor of the Academy of Sciences for your 'special contribution.' Does this mean that you contributed your daughter to the cause of science?”
" Some of my research results in genetics are also very important..." Mr. Cicelin added.
"That makes it clear." The boy closed the folder."The current situation!) It's like this, if you intend to put (people!) Take her back, the country will be satisfied!) Your request, you can!) However, in view of her amazing value in scientific research, if you are willing to donate her to the country again, the country will grant you a special prize and restore your professor title. However, if you decide to donate her again, she may be sent to a distant research base. You and your daughter may not have the chance to see each other again.”
"No need, no need! This is very good!" Chichelin shouted excitedly." Our whole family is willing to devote our lives to science!”
" I want to ask," Mrs. Chichelin said, not caring whether her feminine charm was useful to the boy or not. She twisted her waist excitedly, and her breasts almost rubbed against the boy's face." How much is the prize money?"”
"How about 100,000 rubles?" The boy smiled." This money can buy the chastity of ten virgins on the black market.”
100,000 rubles? This was an unimaginable amount of money for the Chichelin couple. They looked at each other excitedly. Mrs. Chichelin clenched her husband's hand and placed it on her plump chest. She looked up and praised this unexpected gift. Everything was easy as long as she had money. Mrs. Cicelin didn't have to accompany her boyfriends to the ball and could enjoy imported food and high-end fashion. Mr. Cicelin, on the other hand, had enough money to support his family in addition to regaining his professor title. If he had money, he could have another child with his beautiful wife. Perhaps it would be a little girl more beautiful than Renata. They were too excited to notice that this "KGB officer" would actually say something as strange as "the chastity of ten virgins."
"So, deal?" The boy reached out his hand.
"Deal!" Mrs. Chichelin rushed forward and took the boy's hand.
The boy took out ten stacks of rubles from his briefcase and pushed them in front of Mr. Cicelin.""Then from today, Renata Yevgeny Chichelin belongs to me.”
"Of course, of course! If you don't mind, I think,"said Mr. Chichelin, rubbing his fat hands," could you change her name in the file? I don't think it's necessary to keep Yevgenius... You see, she already belongs to the country, there's no need to take her father's name..."
"I understand. Didn't I just say that?" The boy smiled kindly. From now on, she belongs to me. No one will find you again because of her. Yevgenius can be erased, even Chichelin can be erased, and so can Renata.”
" That's great..." Mr. Chichelin reached for the money, but he could not finish his sentence.
An ancient black military knife pierced through his heart. The other end of the knife was held in the boy's hand, and blood spurted out from the grooves on both sides of the knife. When the boy slowly pulled out the military knife from his briefcase, the happy Chichelin couple were hugging and celebrating. Before Mrs. Cicelin could scream, the boy had already pulled the blade back from Mr. Cicelin's heart and stabbed it into Mrs. Cicelin's soft chest, which was admired by countless men. Mr. Chichelin was too weak to scream. He stumbled backward and knocked over several rows of bookshelves. The boy slowly twisted the military knife, causing Mrs. Cicelin's blood to spurt out from the two blood grooves.
He jerked his wrist and pulled back the military knife. Mrs. Chichelin fell on the table in a graceful posture like the death of a swan.
"I have no interest in the survival of ants, and I don't want to dirty my hands because of this. But I promised that silly girl that I would help her find her family…but you actually don't want her anymore. She will be very sad. There are still some things in this world that I can't do. This will make me very embarrassed.”The boy wiped the military knife with a handkerchief." Instead of telling her that her parents are animals, it's better to lie to her." Your parents are already dead. They have been waiting for you to come home for the rest of their lives. Unfortunately, they did not survive this winter when there was a lack of fuel.'”
"So, go to hell." He pushed down the bookshelf to cover the bodies of the Chichelin couple, took out a ball of ashes from the fireplace and threw it on the scattered books. He hummed a song as he did so, his handsome face expressionless.
He kicked the notes into Mr. Chichelin's hand, which was sticking out from under the bookshelf, lowered the library shutter, and snapped the key in the lock. He stood in front of the window and watched the raging flames devour everything in the reading room. Then he turned around and plunged into the snow without looking back.
Moscow train station.
The ticket gate was crowded with people. The passengers sat on their luggage and waited for the K4 express to the Far East. This international train would travel through the vast ice field for a week before finally arriving in Beijing, the capital of China. It was a good place for Moscow today, with plenty of food and 24-hour heating. However, K4 tickets were hard to come by, and those who could get them had connections. Even if they got a ticket, they might not be able to board the train on time. Because the railway along the way lacked maintenance, K4 was often delayed for days. However, no passengers went home to wait for news. Everyone held their tickets and waited in front of the ticket gate. They slept on the ground at night and stared at the ticket gate.
A girl stood out in this group of people. She was only 13 or 14 years old and was still a " little " girl. However, when one looked at her icy little face, one would feel a " stunning " feeling. Even adult men would subconsciously avoid her beauty. She was wearing an elegant camel-colored cashmere coat and a warm-colored checkered scarf. Her pale blonde hair hung down like a waterfall and reached her knees. The people waiting for the bus were all families, but she was alone. She carried a black hard-skin travel bag with both hands and hid half of her body behind a pillar.
A girl like this going to China alone?
Renata had no concept of China at all. She had never thought that she would go to such a faraway place. One day, she and Zero were sitting on a bench by the street, drinking hot coffee. The wind blew an old newspaper over. There was a report about China on it, and the picture was of a group of Chinese students doing morning exercises in a square formation.
"Let's go to China! That place looks very good! It's settled then!" Zero said excitedly after reading the report carefully.
"Oh, okay." Renata said.
Thus, this matter was decided.
"She'll definitely be a beauty when she's a few years older!”
"It's a pity that he's a little short."
"But look at the proportions of her figure. She's definitely a beauty.”
The bored women whispered among themselves. They thought they were whispering enough, but they didn't expect Renata to hear everything. She could hear everyone's voice in the waiting hall clearly. It was a super hearing that was ten times or a hundred times better than ordinary people.
Renata lowered her head and listened to the noise of the world.
This was the so-called awakening. Every night, she would hear the new blood rushing through her veins like a torrent. The blood that belonged to the dragon race seeped into every cell in her body. Every cell seemed to have woken up from a long sleep and was breathing heavily.
It wasn't just the inside that had changed, but also the outside. A month ago, she was still that thin little girl with freckles on her face, like a little kitten that had not developed enough. Now, wherever she went, exclamations of surprise could be heard. She had once secretly envied Khorina, but now she was even more beautiful than Khorina.
After her body healed, it was covered with ugly scars, which made her sad for several days. But one morning, she woke up. He was surprised to find that he had begun to shed his skin. After tearing off the dead skin, the new skin was exposed. It was as perfect as jade, and even the small freckles on her face were gone.
" The new skin is too soft. It's easy to crack in the cold wind," Zero said casually. He had obviously expected this, so he bought some baby skin care oil.
For a period of time after that, Zero stayed by her side. On the way from Black Swan Harbor to Moscow, every time Renata woke up, she would see Zero sitting by the bed, looking at her with interest. She was evolving every day, and the various flaws in her body disappeared with the awakening of her bloodline. Sometimes, Renata would stare blankly at herself in the mirror, from the front to the side, unable to believe that those perfect lines belonged to her.
Zero was very happy with this change and took Renata to the black market to buy clothes. It was Renata's first time seeing so many beautiful clothes hanging together. Back in Black Swan Harbor, the children would only get a new set of clothes for Christmas. She stayed in the changing room while Zero took off clothes from the hanger and threw them in. She put them on one by one and walked out for him to see. Usually, Zero would only take a glance at it. If he felt that it was good, he would snap his fingers to indicate that he wanted it. If he felt that it was not good, he would make a face impatiently.
He bought underwear made in Japan for Renata. Renata couldn't believe that there was such a thin fabric in the world. The silk underwear had beautiful lace edges, and the bra had a thin cotton cushion.
"Anyway, even if they develop, they won't have big breasts. It's better to buy the Japanese version.”Zero mumbled as he paid.
Before Renata could react, the guy had already run away with a strange smile.
Just like that, in just a month, Zero had armed Renata into the only daughter of a high-ranking official. When he carried Renata into a high-end place in Moscow, they complemented each other perfectly.
Money was never a problem. Zero always took out rolls of US dollar bills to pay. Renata didn't know where he got so much money, but she didn't ask. Zero was one of those people who exceeded her imagination. On the way back from Siberia to Moscow, Zero could always get all kinds of luxury goods to enjoy with her. They walked into the sanatorium that was exclusive to senior officials, hand in hand. Zero gestured, and the waiter rushed up to pick up their luggage and arranged for them to stay in the most comfortable room with hot water all day.
After leaving House Zero, there was nothing in the world that could trap Zero. He was completely free. Sometimes, he would still stare at the city under the setting sun like a child, but as the days passed, he became more like a power player. One day, he brought back a box of cuban cigars from the black market. Renata woke up in the middle of the night and saw Zero sitting in front of the fireplace. He lit a cigar by the fire, took a deep puff, and leaned back on the high-back sofa. After a long time, he slowly exhaled a green smoke. At that moment, his pupils reflected the furnace fire, as if it was molten gold. A mountain-like majesty rose from his body, making Renata feel that it was out of reach.
"Don't be afraid. I will change, but I will not leave you.”Zero knew that she was looking at him, but he did not turn around." I will not give up on you while you are still useful to me."”
"This is our new agreement. If you want to live, be brave and always be useful to me.”he said after a while.
The copper bell rang, and the people waiting for the bus stood up like soldiers who had heard the bugle call. Probably because K4 was about to start, people desperately squeezed toward the ticket gate. No one knew if there were enough seats on the bus. The earlier they got on the bus, the more chances they had to leave Moscow. The crowd surged past Renata, and she subconsciously tightened her grip on the things in her pocket. They were two tickets for the Oriental Express and two Chinese visas. All the documents were in her hands. Zero said that she had to do something small and that she would be back before boarding the train.
" If I really didn't make it back in time, then I was caught," Zero said casually as he left." Then you can go to China yourself. We'll meet there."”
Renata didn't believe that anyone in the world could catch Zero, just like how mortals couldn't catch demons. However, her heart was still beating wildly. She craned her neck to look at the entrance of the waiting hall, expecting Zero to suddenly appear. The ticket gate would only be open for a few minutes. If Zero didn't come back in a few minutes, she would have to go to China herself. However, she did not understand China at all. She went to China only because Zero wanted to go to China.
Would they meet again in that distant country? However, Zero did not even set a time and place for their reunion. Perhaps the trip to China was just a lie, and 'doing some small things' was just an excuse to leave. The real reason was that she was no longer useful to Zero, so Zero left. As she thought of this, tears seemed to be about to flow out.
"Do you want hot coffee?" someone said behind her.
Zero was standing behind her with two cups of hot coffee. He was drinking one of them. His black trench coat was covered in snowflakes.
"You're back?" Renata looked at him blankly.
"Oh, I just came back. I went to buy two cups of hot coffee. It's so cold outside." Zero shoved the other glass into Renata's hands."Here, warm your hands."”
Renata held the cup of hot coffee with both hands, tears falling silently.
"I already said that I won't abandon you when you're still useful to me.”Zero saw through Renata's thoughts at a glance. He took off his gloves and rubbed his hands to warm them up before patting Renata's head.
This guy showed a hesitant expression."I went to check on your parents. But I'm sorry, it's bad news. Your parents are dead. They've been waiting for you to come home for the rest of their lives. Unfortunately, they didn't make it through the winter when there was a lack of fuel.”Zero said carefully, staring at Renata with an expression that seemed to ask,""Do you want me to hug you to comfort you after hearing this bad news?”
To Zero's surprise, Renata nodded. She was neither surprised nor sad.
"I know." Renata said softly," The car seems to be leaving.”
"Yes, but these people are blocking the ticket gate.”Zero said," I'll lift you up. Take a look at the situation at the ticket gate.”
He lifted Renata over his head and rode her on his shoulders without any explanation. He was so thin that it was easy for him to do so. The ticket gate did not open. Renata saw the ticket inspector ring the copper bell while writing on the small blackboard. "We have received an emergency notice from the management department. Due to the lack of maintenance of the railway, the K4 train will stop operating immediately.”
Everyone's hope was extinguished. They stood there in a daze, unable to believe the bad news.
" The K4 train has been canceled." Renata said.
Zero carried Renata down and lowered his voice."The news of Black Swan Harbor has reached Moscow.”
Renata looked around warily.
" There's no need to doubt it. They've already realized that someone has escaped from Black Swan Harbor. If it were me, I would also immediately block off the main roads.”Zero dragged Renata out." The Fire Army Station will be blocked first. They will then strengthen their checks at the highway checkpoints and the airport.”
"What should we do?" Renata asked.
" To China." Zero dragged her out of the train station and looked up at the snowy sky." Let's go to China."”
"Go to China?"
"Do you know why I want to go to China?”Zero asked.
Renata shook her head. She hadn't thought about that. Perhaps it was because Zero looked like a Chinese, so they could hide better there.
" I read in the newspaper," Zero said as he touched her face." China is in the south of the Soviet Union. It's very warm there. There are four seasons in a year, spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Flowers bloom in three of them. It wasn't just Papaverradicatum, there were thousands of flowers there! In spring, every valley was filled with different flowers of different colors.”He revealed a proud smile." I'll bring you there!”
His eyes were full of childish excitement, as if the valleys filled with flowers were right in front of him.
"Then let's go to China." Renata nodded." Go to a warm place in the south."”
"Are we going to China just like this?" Renata asked softly.
"If K4 was still in operation, I would definitely be able to get a special seat.”Zero sighed." But this is the only way now. Don't complain, I'm still carrying you…"
On the endless snowfield, the railway tracks were like long black snakes running in parallel. Sometimes, they sank into the snow, and sometimes, they were exposed. They went into the distance intermittently. There was no sign of human habitation for dozens of kilometers, not even a thatched house. There were only withered red pines standing on the snowfield. They were advancing along the railway, stepping on the knee-deep snow.
"You won't get lost if you follow the tracks. This track is used by K4. You can go to China if you follow it.”Zero said.
It seemed that this guy's plan was to walk to Beijing. According to the map, this track was 7000 kilometers long. Normal people would not make such a bold travel plan. However, Zero said that he was crazy, so it was not surprising.
Renata's physical strength after awakening was far superior to that of ordinary people, but even so, after trekking 120 kilometers on crossties, she still couldn't hold on anymore. Her legs didn't seem to belong to her anymore.
"Women are just a little tender. There's no other way. I'll carry you.”Zero took off Renata's ankle boots, wrapped her bloody feet with gauze, and carried her on his back.
Feeling tired, Renata fell asleep on Zero's back. Zero's body shielded her from the cold wind, and his back was warm.
"I'm not going all the way to Beijing.”Zero said," As long as we reach the next station, we can get the tank car. The only place that is tightly sealed is Moscow. Hold on, hold on. According to my calculations, we still have…um…about 800 kilometers…"
"Sure," Renata said softly.
"Hey, hey, hey! Don't sleep! You'll catch a cold if you fall asleep in this weather!”Zero shook Renata hard." In this world of ice and snow, I'm the only one who can keep you warm. I don't mind taking off my clothes and hugging you, but aren't you afraid of me? Hehehehe, maybe I've already started to develop.”
"Oh." Renata was so tired that she couldn't even open her eyes.
"I have no choice. Let me tell you about your parents. That way, you'll be energized.”Zero said.
"Sure," Renata opened her eyes.
Zero licked his lips that were dry from the wind and snow."Your father is a professor at the Academy of Sciences, a professor of genetic biology. He was a little bald…This was from the photo…But he was still handsome. To be honest, his research results were not very good. A few years ago, he was stripped of his professor title because of the review. Later, he had been working in the library. He was the one who first noticed your peculiarity. He's a keen scientist. He liked to drink, and his alcohol tolerance was quite good.”
"Is that so?" Renata whispered.
Your mother is a beauty! I think you inherited all those beautiful genes from her. She was already in her forties…I mean, before she passed away…but she was still a beautiful young woman. I heard that many men of status in Moscow admired her, but your parents 'marriage was fine. Oh yes, your mother likes to dance. Every weekend, she goes to the dance floor behind the Moscow Theater. When we get to China, you can try to learn how to dance,
"Is that so?" Renata added.
" It's a pity that they're dead," Zero sighed." There's a saying in China,'Good people don't live long.'”
"How did they die?" Renata asked.
"Because of the cold, it caused the flu. Your father fell ill first. Your mother took care of him and unfortunately, she also contracted it. The flu turned into pneumonias, and they died around the same time.”Zero wiped his sweat. He was in a sorry state. His thin coat was draped over Renata's back to keep out the cold. His wool coat was crooked, and the front of his coat was covered in snow. His leather shoes were covered in mud.
"You killed them." Renata said.
She said it so calmly and coldly, as if she was just stating the truth, and this truth had nothing to do with her.
Zero's body shook slightly. He stopped and slowly stood up straight. He turned to look at Renata."How did you know?"
With his pride and laziness, even though he was exposed, he was unwilling to deny it. He had already told a lie to comfort the girl and was too lazy to use more lies to cover up his lie.
" You smell like blood," Renata said." I can tell you're lying when I look into your eyes.”
Zero looked at the inside of his sleeve. There were a few drops of blood there. It was accidentally splattered when he stabbed Mrs. Cicelin's chest. Normally, even a police dog wouldn't be able to smell such a small amount of blood.
He sighed." This is because of your 'Mirror Pupil'. Your true talent is analysis and replication, so the closer you get to me, the stronger your replication ability will be. Looks like I can't lie to your face in the future. Your father is an idiot. He thought you had a devilish intelligence, but you only analyzed the structure of the radio.”
"Why?" Renata asked.
Zero shrugged. Your father was an academic waste. He was an alcoholic and incompetent. He earned the title of professor at the Academy of Sciences by offering you to the country. That title was quickly taken away because he spouted nonsense at an academic conference. Your mother's beauty is a fact, but she's a slut. That's a lighter term. I can even call her a whore. She was indeed a good dancer, so the playboys in the dance hall were willing to give her some small gifts and touch her body while they were dancing. She has a few 'boyfriends' who have some connections. It seems that she will divorce your father soon. In short, your family is terrible. You don't want to go back there. It's worse than Black Swan Harbor. You might even be forced into prostitution when you go back.”
"Are they such people?" Renata lowered her head so that Zero could not see her face.
"And they don't care about you at all. They're thinking of having another child to replace you. I told them I could send you back to them, but they said,"No, no, no, don't let that ominous child stay away from us! " I told them that I was willing to buy you for 100,000 rubles. They were so happy that they wanted to kneel on the ground and lick my feet and call me master. They begged me to change your name too. It's best if you don't have the surname Chichelin anymore," Zero shouted angrily." What should I do?" Can I come back and tell you that your family is scum? Damn it! I don't think it's easy to say this, so I think it's better to solve the problem!”
Renata nodded and stopped talking.
"Alright! I'm telling the truth this time. Any other questions? No problem, I still have to continue walking! You're like a princess with someone carrying you. My shoes are soaked!”Zero was getting impatient.
"No problem." Renata whispered.
They didn't say anything along the way, only hearing the howling of the wind and snow. After a long time, Zero felt warm water dripping on his neck.
"What now?" He sighed.
"They…don't love me." Renata's voice was distorted by her sobs. She had awakened and evolved, strengthened her bones and muscles, and the blood of ancient dragons flowed in her veins, but she could not make her heart invulnerable.
"What's the use of love?" "Well, you never had that kind of thing!" Zero shouted impatiently. You're a mixed-blood, do you understand? You are not a human. When you gain abilities, you can only stay away from the crowd. You are destined to be alone, like a genius, a hero, and a madman. You don't need love. You can live as long as you have the ability!”
"Understood." Renata said.
However, the warm water droplets continued to drip on Zero's neck. After being blown by the wind, they actually froze, making him shiver.
"Are you still crying? You're very annoying! Do you know?" Zero's patience was finally running out. His voice echoed in the snow." You're ugly when you cry! I hate it when my subordinates are ugly!”
Renata wiped her face, but her eyes were still red and swollen. She didn't want Zero to get angry because of her. Although she didn't really hate him when he was angry, he was more like a child when he was angry.
"Listen up! Remember it! I bought you from your father for 100,000 rubles! From now on, you're mine!" Zero's face was fierce." From now on, your surname is not Chichelin, nor is your name Renata. Your name is…"
He thought for a moment." You'll be called Zero. You're mine, so you'll use my name! If you have to love something to give you the confidence to live on, it's better to love me! At least I won't betray you like your scumbag father for that pitiful benefit! Even if I sell you out, it must be in exchange for something of great value!”Zero spat." Scum!”
" Okay..." Renata's answer was swallowed by the sound of the wind and snow.
Zero did not answer. Perhaps he was tired of this conversation, or perhaps he did not hear it at all. He pushed Renata onto his shoulder and continued to walk over the frozen sleepers.
