Chapter XIX
That night, everything was silent. The silver moon rose high and scattered the white moonlight. The lighthouse flew over the rocky desert. Most of the people in the lighthouse had already rested.
The mountain ranges below were intertwined with each other. They were filled with barren yellow sand and rocks. There were no signs of life at all. It was rare for Extreme Devouring Beasts to appear in such a place.
The Extreme Devouring Beast had no consciousness and could only rely on its instincts to move around in areas with human tracks. No matter whether it was morning or night, the lighthouse's purpose of flying in the desolate area was always for safety.
In the central command hall of the lighthouse.
At this moment, there were only two people here. Morgan stood on the high platform of the command hall and looked at the hanging building outside. The other person was Mark, who was walking on the stairs.
After arriving behind Morgan, Mark immediately shouted,""City Lord…"
Morgan had already heard Mark's footsteps. He raised his hand to stop Mark from speaking and said,"I know what you're thinking. I don't intend to discuss this with you. Look at the hanging buildings outside and the people who are doing their jobs. We are the last humans, Mark.”
Morgan turned around and looked at Mark, who was gradually walking over. He then said," You are an outstanding warrior, but you can't be a Desolate Hunter forever. I'm old, so I hope you can take over and take care of the lighthouse. Don't let it fall.”
" I'm afraid I can't take on such an important mission.”
"What mission? Stop flattering yourself. I'm just asking you to move your butt and help me protect this iron lump that has been hanging in the sky for decades. Let these old bones of mine live a few days of leisure before I die.”
"City Lord, you originally had a more suitable candidate for this position.”
The two of them walked down the high platform as they talked. However, when Ma Ke's words fell, the atmosphere could not help but fall silent for a moment.
Morgan sighed." That's right. Hongkou was once my best student and also the most outstanding commander of the Desolate Hunters. If she was still alive, she might be the most suitable successor.”
"She respects you more than anyone else, but you didn't give her a chance when she needed you the most…"
At this point, Ma Ke couldn't help but feel a little sad.
Morgan let out a deep breath, but his eyes didn't seem to have any meaning. He turned his head and asked,""Are you still brooding over what happened fifteen years ago?”
"She's my sister!" Ma Ke said excitedly.”
"That's the family relationship of the Old World!”
Morgan angrily said this, causing the atmosphere to become inexplicably heavy.
Then, he turned around and said earnestly,"You know, the lighthouse was our last shelter. The harsh environment after the disaster forced us to change our way of living. Whether it's the division of ranks, genetic optimization, the elimination of family relationships, or the long journey, all of these are to fight for the greatest possibility of our survival! Each of us must become a part of the lighthouse.
And she did it for him? He openly went against the three rules of survival and disregarded the existence of the entire Lighthouse!”
Ma Ke's mood was inevitably low, and he started to refute Morgan."Is there no other way for us to go? I've been through so many battles on the surface, I know better than anyone how dangerous they are. We always thought that the surface couldn't survive, but now I see humans on the surface. Maybe, maybe Lighthouse had other options.”
Morgan had an unhappy expression as he nodded and quickly stepped forward."We have no other choice, and it is impossible for us to return to the surface! You don't know how dangerous they are!”
Ma Ke pondered for a long time and said again,"But we have hope now. Isn't the Red Dragon the best proof? He's willing to help Lighthouse."
Morgan sighed again. He felt that Mark's thoughts were too simple. He was a little tired and turned around." Even if the Red Dragon appears to be on the side of the humans, he's still an anomaly. We can't know what he's thinking, much less control him effectively.
If he didn't have any plans, why would he be at ease when you brought him back to the Lighthouse? Although I said it was a help, I actually felt that it was more of a trade. Once that guy achieved his goal, it would be time for danger.
Sigh, you can leave. The ceremony would be held in seven days. I will tell you everything on the day you take over.”
Mark wanted to say something else, but Morgan didn't want to hear it anymore.
"You said that you saw a woman on the ground?”
"Yes."
" Sometimes, people are blinded by their own eyes. Perhaps her nature is not much different from that of the Red Dragon. Forget about this matter. Don't mention it again in the future.”
Morgan didn't say anything else after giving Mark these final instructions, causing Mark to walk towards the command hall's door.
After Mark left, Morgan shook his head as if he was denying something. He muttered to himself,"Ma Ke is still too young…Perhaps I have to reconsider the position of the City Lord…"
In less than two minutes, Victor came to the command hall according to the city lord's instructions and walked behind Morgan." City lord, do you think it's her?”
Morgan's expression was deep, but his tone wasn't panicked at all." It's been more than 30 years. You're really chasing after me relentlessly. The red dragon might have been sent by her as well. It was too much of a coincidence that these two things had happened together. Not long after she arrived in the New World of Australia and Asia, the hunting team found a gorilla cocoon in the spaceship ruins. Then, Mark and the others met her on the way back.”
Victor gasped and suggested,""This…it sounds like the Red Dragon has a positioning function. Should we gather our troops and force him down the lighthouse?”
"If the red dragon is on par with her, no matter how many people we send, we'll be sending them to their deaths. There's no need to anger him. From the current situation, the Red Dragon's attitude was unclear. If it really wanted to help the humans, then it would really be a lucky hope in the end. "If not…it'll be a headache for us. No one wants to become monsters, right? After all, we're the last humans." Morgan shook his head and said," Let Carrie crack the red dragon's blood gene as soon as possible and activate the Abyssal Advent Plan. She'll have some ability to protect herself. If she really came looking for him, this was the only way…
She also wanted to find out what the Red Dragon was thinking and try to get the Red Dragon to deal with her. If he could make a move or have any ideas, she could probably guess what he was thinking.”
"Yes, sir!"
Victor nodded and immediately went to take care of City Lord Morgan's orders.
"The lighthouse's route is still long…I wonder when humans will be able to recover their civilization…"
Looking at the Dustmen laborers who were still hanging outside the huge French windows, City Lord Morgan fell into deep thought.
