In the winter of 1914, it was snowing heavily. A good friend of Li Shutong, who was also his sworn brother, went bankrupt due to financial assistance. He ran to the outside of Li Shutong's courtyard and shouted,"Shutong, Shutong, my family is bankrupt. I'm going to leave. I'm going to be disillusioned." He didn't even enter the courtyard; instead, he turned around and staggered away. At this moment, Li Shutong walked out of the courtyard. Watching his friend's back and rows of deep footprints in the snow, he silently dropped tears. He also wrote this poem.

......

Outside the long pavilion, the ancient road, grass green sky. The evening breeze blew the willows and the flute was still playing, and the sun was setting beyond the mountains.

At the end of the sky, at the corner of the earth, half of the acquaintances are scattered. A ladle of turbid wine to finish the rest of the joy, tonight farewell dream cold.

Outside the long pavilion, the ancient road, grass green sky. The evening breeze blew the willows and the flute was still playing, and the sun was setting beyond the mountains.

.....

A leisurely song slowly came out of Jiang Chen's mouth. Looking at the monk and the crying woman, he could not help but feel emotional.

"Shu Tong's 'Farewell' does not involve enlightenment. It has a long meaning, and the combination of music and literature can be said to be perfect. The lyrics were written in short and long sentences. The language was concise, the feelings were sincere, and the artistic conception was profound.”

"Sir, do you like it too?”

Cai Yuanpei's gaze shifted from the distance and then looked at Jiang Chen with curiosity.

Cai Yuanpei was undoubtedly familiar with Li Shutong. He was also a talented person, and even Cai Yuanpei himself was far inferior to him.

He didn't expect to hear this farewell song from Jiang Chen.

"Half a lifetime of prosperity, half a lifetime of monks, Li Shutong no longer exists in this world!”

Cai Yuanpei spoke, but Jiang Chen spoke slowly with a sigh.

His words instantly made Cai Yuanpei think of something, and his gaze instantly gathered on the monk who had left in the distance.

"Sir, you mean that person is Li Shutong!”

Cai Yuanpei spoke in astonishment. He had never expected that he would meet Li Shutong on a casual tour of West Lake.

That was Li Shutong.

Li Shutong, also known as Li Xishuang, Li An and Li Liang, was named Wentao in his genealogy, Chengxi in his childhood, Guanghou in his scientific name, Xishuang in his word, and Shutong in his other name.

Li Shutong was not only a famous musician, art instructor, calligrapher, and drama practitioner, but also one of the pioneers of Chinese drama. After he returned from studying in Japan, he served as a teacher and editor. His name had long resounded on the stage of the entire world.

Even Cai Yuanpei had heard countless legends about this person.

"If you don't mind, Duke Cai, why don't you make a trip to the temple?”

Jiang Chen didn't explain or admit Cai Yuanpei's shock. Instead, he asked softly.

"I don't mind, I don't mind!"

Cai Yuanpei hurriedly said, his eyes filled with surprise. He had never thought that there would be such a genius waiting for him by the West Lake. At this moment, Cai Yuanpei's eyes lit up.

Jiang Chen smiled and didn't expose this person's fantasy.

Cai Yuanpei might be able to persuade him, but he might not be able to persuade Li Shutong, or he would definitely fail.

Each of us was in the process of bidding farewell. It was like riding on a train that had been moving. The destination was very clear, which was to leave the world. During this journey, there were people who would get on the train and people who would get off the train. In the face of these fated gatherings and fated dispersing, we were actually helpless. Li Shutong was the only one who saw through this world. He put himself down, put the world down, and put it into the dust. He faced the world with compassion.

With a step forward, the group stepped onto the road ahead.

The Dinghui Temple was built in the Eastern Han Dynasty and had a history of more than 1800 years. Originally known as Puji Temple, it was called Puji Zen Temple in the Song Dynasty, renamed Jiaoshan Temple in the Yuan Dynasty, and renamed "Dinghui Temple" when Kangxi visited Jiaoshan during his southern tour.

The two words "Ding Hui" of Dinghui Temple were taken from the Buddhist school of "from precepts to stability". Because of stability, wisdom and stillness are integrated, and wisdom is equal. "Concentration" meant to remove all selfish thoughts and thoughts, allowing one's thoughts to be highly concentrated. Wisdom was to increase one's wisdom through the three paths of listening, thinking, and cultivation. The two words "wisdom" were the Buddhist cultivation program, so it could be seen that the two words "wisdom" had a deep meaning.

When the group arrived at Dinghui Temple.

"Patrons, do you want to burn incense or worship Buddha?”

A young monk came forward and put his palms together in front of Jiang Chen and the others. His voice was gentle.

"Little Master, we would like to see Master Hong Yi. Is it convenient?”

Jiang Chen put his palms together and spoke.

"Master Hongyi, I'm afraid it's not convenient for you.”

The small monk said with a troubled tone.

"Little Master, there's no need to be in a hurry to refuse. Do you have a brush and ink here? Please give me a copy.”

Jiang Chen smiled.

"Yes, please wait a moment!”

The small monk nodded. Although he was a little puzzled, he quickly took out a brush and ink.

Jiang Chen raised his pen in front of them and a few lines of text appeared.

Then, he rolled up the paper and handed it to the small monk.

"Little Master, please pass this to Master Hong Yi.”

Jiang Chen smiled again.

"Alright."

Although the small monk was confused, he still took Jiang Chen's paper and ran away.

"Sir, what about you?"

Cai Yuanpei naturally saw the content of Jiang Chen's words. He only felt the corner of his mouth twitch. He felt that it would be good if the other party didn't kick them out.

If the abbot of Dinghui Temple saw it, they might be in trouble.

"Don't worry, nothing will happen!”

Jiang Chen smiled.

Just as Cai Yuanpei was feeling nervous, the small monk came out again.

"Patrons, please!"

The small monk said respectfully.

Cai Yuanpei was stunned.

The two of them walked toward the temple.

Dinghui Temple was a grand temple. During its heyday in the Ming Dynasty, there were 98 temples and 3000 monks. There were tens of thousands of monks who participated in Zen. In addition, there were 18 temples on both sides of Dinghui Temple, called "Eighteen Houses", so it had a prominent position in Zen temples.

After reaching the Republic of China, although it had shrunk, it was still very large.

The two of them followed the little monk for a long distance before arriving at a large hall.

What made Cai Yuanpei focused was that there was a woman kneeling outside the hall.

The woman looked to be in her thirties, and her expression was also extremely sorrowful.

"The world is unpredictable, and human affairs are also free.”

Jiang Chen sighed and stepped in.

Cai Yuanpei also took a deep look at the woman and followed Jiang Chen in.

In the main hall.

Under the tall Buddha statue, a monk closed his eyes and the Buddha beads in his hand moved gently.

Greetings, Master Hong Yi."

Jiang Chen said.

"Shu Tong!"

Cai Yuanpei couldn't help but call out his name.

"Sir, may I ask what the true scripture is? If one didn't take the true scriptures for cultivation, what else could one cultivate?”

Li Shutong spoke slowly, without any sadness or joy.

"The so-called true scripture is the ultimate technique that can achieve Nirvana in the Void. It can be comprehended but not cultivated. To become a Buddha, one had to pray. Enlightenment is to understand the nature, lies in the knowledge. The practice of cultivation controls the nature by virtue, and the enlightenment of enlightenment is carried out by virtue. The enlightened person produces the law from the heart, and the practitioner controls the heart with the law. Those who do not suffer evil deeds have faith and no evidence. They live in the cause, live in the effect, live in the mind, and live in the heart. This is the way of life and death. Those who do not know the cause and effect of things do not live, do not have desires, do not have precepts, do not have precepts, so Nirvana.”

He spoke.

Cai Yuanpei was stunned.

The conversation between the two of them began.

Li Shutong's back was facing the two of them.

Jiang Chen looked at the Buddha statue in front of him.

This time, they were so harmonious.

Cai Yuanpei was about to say something, but he stopped abruptly.

He even stopped the three children.

"If you don't become a Buddha, then what is a Buddha?”

Li Shutong's magnetic voice sounded again.

"Buddha is the Awakened Nature, not human. Everyone has Awakened Nature, but that doesn't mean that Awakened Nature is human. The appearance of human beings can be destroyed, but the nature of enlightenment is neither born nor destroyed. It is manifested when it is awakened, and it is covered by dust when it is blocked. It is not manifested without barriers, and it is nirvana when it is blocked. The Buddha who has achieved perfection is the Buddha of human appearance. When he is perfect, he stops, which means that he is not infinite. If the Buddha has the capacity, then it is not Amitabha. There is no limit to Buddhism, which means that there is no limit to enlightenment. There is no circle, no circle, no fullness, no dissatisfaction, and there is no ultimate perfection. Personally, I think that it is divided into ranks. From the depths of the essence, it is a natural Tao technique. The Tao technique is incredible, which is not culture. From a simple point of view, it was a doctrine that guided people to be good. Good and evil were originally human, self, and all living beings, which was culture. From the perspective of sentient beings, it is a good skill to control greed with greed and illusion with illusion. Although it does not destroy corruption, it does not hinder the compassion that soothes the soul.”

"Benefactor, you don't need to study the scriptures. It's already very rare for you to reach this realm by yourself. In this poor monk's opinion, you have already stepped on the threshold of enlightenment. You are only one step away from enlightenment. If you enter the Pure Land, you will enter the mortal world. However, this step is as difficult as ascending to heaven.”

"Grandmaster, you flatter me."

"What is a Dao? It is a Dao for the common people, for the people, for the country. Compared to it, it is just a bundle in the vast sea.”

"Bodhi is not a tree, and the mirror is not a platform. There is nothing in the world, so how can there be dust? Patron, this is not something that can be changed by one person.”

"That's why we need to work hard.”

....

In the main hall, only the voices of the two people were talking.

This discussion lasted for an entire afternoon.

When night fell.

Only then did the two of them slowly stop talking.

"Benefactor, you are a great talent, and Hongyi is not as good as you. In the temple, there are books I wrote in my early years, such as opera, music, painting, and understanding.”

Li Shutong put his palms together.

"Thank you, Master!"

Jiang Chen also put his palms together.

Jiang Chen didn't have a good impression of this existence, but he couldn't deny that there was a master among them, and this person was undoubtedly a master, a true master.

Master Hongyi's contribution to Buddhism was mainly reflected in his research and promotion of the Vinaya Sect. In order to revitalize the study of law, Master Hongyi was not afraid of difficulties. He studied deeply, devoted himself to the precepts, wrote books and put them into practice. He was a highly respected master of the Vinaya Sect in the recent world and a famous eminent monk.

In order to carry forward the study of temperament, Master Hongyi studied the "Quarter-temperament" and spent four years writing the "Quarter-temperament Bhikkhu Rong Xiang Biao Ji." This book and the "Nanshan Law at Home" written by him in his later years promoted Buddhism and became two masterpieces.

"Patron, you're too kind!"

The two of them chatted and the little monk brought over some books.

Jiang Chen and the others immediately chose to say goodbye.

Cai Yuanpei's original thoughts disappeared at this moment.

The Dao discussion had cleansed his heart and calmed him down.

After listening to this discussion, Cai Yuanpei understood that he had no way of recruiting Li Shutong. If they were still in the mortal world, then Li Shutong would have seen through the mortal world.

A group of people came down from the mountain.

He was speechless.

"Young Master, that sister is so pitiful. And that sister from before!”

When she had completely walked down, the young girl spoke with pity.

"The world is unpredictable, and the world is also free. Hongyi's choice of another path may be right, but in the end, he has let down some people.”

Jiang Chen sighed. This was the only thing he could say.

Hongyi was a great monk.

And this body was destined to be unworthy of those two.

The 39-year-old Li Shutong had seen through the world of mortals and let go of everything except himself. He could no longer tolerate any feelings, let alone a living woman.

Just like on the West Lake.

She called out to him,"Shu Tong…"

He replied,"Please call me Hongyi…"

She held back her tears."Master Hongyi, please tell me, what is love?”

"Love is compassion," he replied.”

She screamed,"Mercy to the world, why only hurt me?"”

On the boat, she had already cried her heart out, but he had turned around and left without even looking back.

She didn't understand, and neither did the world, why he could be so heartless.

Everyone had their own choices and paths.

People were destined to be different.

Worlds were destined to be different.

Even if they lived in the same world, their worlds would ultimately be different.

Lin Yutang said,"He once belonged to our era, but he finally abandoned this era and jumped out of the mortal world."”Zhang Ailing said,"Don't think that I'm an arrogant person. I've never been one. At least, outside the walls of Master Hong Yi's monastery, I'm so humble.”Zhao Puchu commented that he was "the eyes of the world with endless treasures, and the heart of the heavens with a full moon".
